Default What social websites do you use and why

FV is basically the only website that I seem to be addicted to. I really enjoy the fact that I can ask a question and someone will have a great answer to it plus I find myself comforted by like minded people. I also enjoy how supportive everyone is on this site.

I however really have no interest in joining facebook or myspace. For some reason I can't help thinking it is a waste of time. I do realize many people use it and it helps to keep everyone up to date with what is happening in your life.

Even though I think most of the social websites are a waste of time I also realize I use FV pretty much in the same way. So I can't help thinking I am a contradiction.

So I am interested in knowing why you enjoy using social websites or perhaps why you do not use them.

I'm a Facebook addict! I confess...I really am....It's set as my home page...I like seeing all my friends updates...I check it multiple times a day. Most all the people on my friends list are people I know in real life or from high school. I love seeing all the pictures people post of their growing families and their daily activities. And it's a great way of getting in contact with someone....My boss and I communicate outside of work through facebook....some of my coworkers are on their as well. I also have some family members...that I wouldnt' get to "see" otherwise on their...so I think it's a great way to keep in touch with people!

I really only use 2 sites the FV and every once in awhile FB.

FB keeps you in touch with everyone, everyone knows what's going on in your life. I find that I'd rather not know. I don't want to know the fights that are going on in my family, extended and otherwise. I don't want to read the jabs and the hot retorts, and I certainly don't want to get drug into it. I don't want to play grammar school games where if you talk to this one, like this persons posts then you've betrayed me. All the if you're this persons friend then you can't be mine. I'd rather be blissfully unaware, so to that end i created a second FB page that only my church family and certain friends are on. Now, I don't spend a lot of time on that either, maybe once every week or two for a few minutes. But, I can keep up with what's happening at church and with friends, if prayer is needed, etc.

I don't know if other people have a family like mine, but all the bickering drives me crazy. My DH's family are (for the most part) relaxed, not much fighting and carrying on. Everyone seems to behave themselves, no front page news. I can't figure what's wrong in my family, must be something in the blood. Embarrassing!

So FV is it for me, mostly.

I use Facebook on a regular basis to keep up with all my friends and relatives both locally and far away. I don't use any of the apps available but only do it to communicate. Most of our sites are private.

I use FB for friends and 43things and FV for getting things done. 43t is a list your goals site and the people there have become my 2nd family, no my first family. I have never had a family, that is supportive people who would cheer me on when I succeed and comiserate with me when I failed, until I found 43t. I use FB for general status/keeping up with friends, but my home is 43.

I use facebook a lot because my kids do- it's a GREAT spy tool if you have teens!!
I've re-connected with old friends from high school (includiing one guy who has been a Mary Knoll priest in Tanzania for 25+ years!!) - and the thing I really like is chat - I work as a home care nurse on the night shift, and I can 'talk' to my DD in North Carolina when she gets off work at midnight, and not make any noise or burn any cell minutes (I have a prepaid)

Most of my socializing time is spent on FV because of the quality and integrity of the people!! I do check in with FB daily and keep in touch with things that are happening at school (since I hardly ever see anyone outside my classroom) and some farflung friends and relatives. It's a good balance for me!!

I just checked out the 43 things website, it's pretty cool! I like the idea that I can write entries about the things I want to accomplish...now is there a way to communicate with the people on there, a forum? I haven't poked around enough to find it. I'm too busy listing goals for myself. and it's really hard to come up with 43..I have 13...and am really struggling for anything else....

In addition to FV, I hang out on several other discussion boards on various subjects: sustainability, self-sufficiency, vegetarianism, Buddhism, hippies, and a couple of weather-nerd sites.

I have never gotten into Facebook. Not being able to lurk there is a major obstacle for me. How do I know if the person is someone I want to get to know when I can't see anything about them until I commit to being their "friend"?

EXACTLY!!! I have about 4 invites sitting in a folder. I know who these are from, but I just haven't signed up........and don't know that I will. If they want me to see their pics........SEND them to me!

Hang on FV and keep up with a couple other blogs as the interests are similar. Signed up for a couple other sites but not real active.........and one charges to get any good info........so will be canceling that one. Too much free stuff out there to be paying ...and this isn't even info from EXPERTS!

Facebook is by far my favorite place on the internet to be. I have reconnected with so many friends from as far back as preschool. A couple of them I had not seen in thirty years and we have picked up as if we had never been apart. I have two cousins that live 500 miles from me. I only see them once in a blue moon, but with FB we get to talk anytime, keep up with each others' kids and send lots of pictures back and forth.

I also have a MySpace. But, rarely check in there since all of my MySpace friends are now on FB.

i mainly used my myspace as a business resource when i was a ebay seller -i sold vintage clothing - a bunch of us all friended each other we would have pix up of things we had listed or sold and that way it was easy for vintage buyers to find us thru each other .
