Flood!
We have had a very busy couple of days. The Wisconsin River is flooding, and we had around 2 inches of water in our basement. What a mess! We are still cleaning and sorting. The problem is that everything molds so fast!
I am regretting how I have procrastinated about scanning pictures, etc. as they are now all ruined.
The river crested this afternoon, so hopefully no more water. The ground is completely saturated. Roads and bridges closed-the kids almost didn't get home from school in time yesterday before roads were closed!
Very scary.
Here is a link to a few pictures that were in a paper: Friday night and Saturday - Voice of Wisconsin Rapids and WSAW - Home
We stopped for a bite to eat and then are going back downstairs. What a lousy weekend.

I am so sorry about your pictures.I know that floods are scary----we lived in Tomah when we had a bad flood Aug. 1990 -they couldn't get the dam loose for quite a while to release the pressure...I remember being only days away from having baby #4....we were knee-deep with water in the basement. I am so sorry to hear this. My mind jumps back a few weeks ago when we had 7 inches of rain in less than an hour, and that was on top of constant rain during the preceding week, and that was on top of a very rainy summer. The sewers couldn't drain the water fast enough, and they backed up into our basement. It was sickening. We, too, lost photos that we had no other copies of. We were blessed to have good home insurance that paid for the professional clean up and mold prevention. They paid for lost items, except for the photos. They said those would have sentimental value, but were counted as just paper. Hope you can take a deep breath, and eventually get it all done.

Nasty business you are dealing with - so sorry for the mess and loss of pictures.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. We just went through this about a month ago where I live. I know it is not fun but it does bring a lot of good out in people. They band together and help where it is needed. Hope you get all the water out soon. Hopefully FEMA will show up for you soon so you too can maybe get some help. They were really good to our town.
Becky

I'm sorry you are dealing with this mess and hope you and your neighbors can get things back to "normal" soon. Such a helpless feeling having no control.

Praying for you! We are in Middle Tn and got hit hard by the floods in May here. So many lost everything. A member of our church was swept away in the waters and his remains were just discovered today. Please be careful out there!

Well, the worst is over. We ended up with 3 inches in our basement, so we had to buy a submersible pump, and extra dehumidifier, many huge totes, and assorted misc., for around $675. Sure wasn't expecting that.
Anyway, we still have work to do, but are busy disinfecting right now. We have so many years of just stuff in the basement. I have always meant to sort through everything, but now it's too late. Most had to be thrown. Weird that I spent alot of my life keeping things, and it was all for nothing. That was a lesson. But I can't complain, as we are luckier than several families in this town. Their basements caved in. Life could be much worse.
We are feeling better about things, too, since the worse is over. When the rain wouldn't stop and the water kept coming in despite wet vacuuming about 300 gallons of water, we despaired. Thank goodness that it is over.
