Just because you are a pedestrian and have the right of way does not make it okay to step out into the street. I used to work downtown and people would step out into the street as soon as they got the Walk sign without looking. The pedestrian is supposed to check to make sure it is safe and then step into the street.

I was driving on a six lane road when I approached a crosswalk with overhead flashing warning lights. All lanes of traffic stopped and the pedestrian was walking left to right. I was in the curbside lane and i look in my right side view mirror and sure enough a bicyclist was going full steam down the gutter deciding the rules of the road needn't apply and he'd pass everyone stopped at the crosswalk. I start sounding my horn to try and warn the pedestrian. The pedestrian was about 3/4 past my vehicle when the bike zoomed by less than a metre in front of her at probably a good 30 km/h. If there was anyone that ever deserved to be doored.
I'd say about half of all bicyclists around here utterly and completely disregard all rules of the road, or anything even resembling defensive driving. Which causes a problem for the half of bicylists that DO follow rules.
