So I asked him "Do you just make a two veggies...corn for the kids & regular veggies for the adults (and for the kids to 'try')?"

He said "No, we just buy only corn. We have corn or no veggies because I'm tired of eating corn."

Corn's not even a real vegetable lol.

Wow, amazing! Unless it is because of health reasons.... why reinforce this behaviour?!

Let them cook for their kids.

I get so tired of the picky kid stuff. Kids are picky because the parents let them. Even among our autistic friends (I have 2 autistic) I hear the "mine only like the textures of nuggets and mac n cheese" - no, unhealthy bodies crave the stuff that is bad for them (gluten/casein). We only cater to true allergies/sensitivities in this house. People cannot understand how I get my kids to eat broccoli and brussel sprouts. You just keep the garbage out and veggies in.

    I agree 2ndGen!

I don't plan on catering to them. I'll keep making what I always make and if they (their kids) don't like it then they can make themselves a sandwich or have an alternative provided by their parents.

I just am not looking forward to my kids seeing their cousins getting what they want all the time. Mine eat what I make, even if they don't like it. There are a few things they don't like here & there (and veggies aren't one of them, they all love veggies), but they deal with it.

Who knows, maybe your kid's good habits will rub off on their cousins....I'm probably reaching here aren't I? I still can't believe that your brother won't buy other vegetables besides corn because the kids don't like them.... It definitely never stopped my parents from buying asparagus or broccoli, just because we didn't like them as kids. And it never stopped them from making us have a small portion of whatever vegetable was served with dinner LOL. Those kids must be deficient in all sorts of vitamins. The best part, to me anyway, is that all of those sugary breakfast cereals are "fortified" with vitamins. It makes a nice cop-out for parents who let their kids eat only what they want to eat.

I hope everything works out well. Maybe staying with you for awhile would be good for the kids. Who knows, they might be veggie lovers when they leave your house.

    Um...More than doubled our family!!

My oldest dd (18) who moved out the beginning of October ended up having to move back home (roommate drama ).

Brother leaves on Saturday to bring his wife & two kids from FL.

Sister moved to Wisconsin and left her oldest son here with friends (long story) and my mom & I went and got him today and he's going to stay with us until the end of the school year. Honestly I think it will be longer than that because of her financial situation, but we'll see.

So this time next week I will have five adults (including 18yo dd) and six kids in my house

Good thing we have six bedrooms, three bathrooms and lots of extra space!! It's gonna be a GREAT Christmas tho

wow, this is a big deal YankeeMom, bless you for being so generous, juston't let them take advantage of you like the meKepp us updated, als etc. I wonder how many people (families) are now doing this because of the economic situation, I bet there are many...it reminds me of older generations who used to all share homes etc. I hope you have plenty of board games etc, have many refidgerators do you have? Will your brother bring anyappliances to your home, does he have a bigger table for the dining? Food wise, you have had lots of advice, plus you already have a big family yourself, so I know you know how to stretch a dollar. Do you have room for a big garden next spring? Soup, lots of soup....keep us updated, hugs being sent your way

Thankfully we have two full-sized fridges and two medium sized chest freezers. The only thing brother is bringing is their bedroom stuff, tvs, & video games. And of course, clothes. I'm thinking I'm going to have to look for a card table for the kids to sit at or something lol. My poor dining room table lol.

When I used to cook weekly for church I would sometimes cook several chickens at a time and pull all the meat off and would make chicken and rice, teriyaki chicken, bbq chicken sandwhiches stuff like that on occasion.

I would also cook several roasts at a time and pull the meat off and make hot roast beef sandwhiches ect.

Parmesan Chicken, soups, stews, big pans of Cracker Barrel Potatoes.
