    booklover, i meant no offense.

alot of postal workers are stereotyped. we have been thru 3 different ones in the past 8 yrs..our mail used to arrive at 11:15 am promtply..now we are lucky if it gets here by 4pm. our newest deliverer, pulls up in her truck w/ a cig hanging out of her mouth and an ashtray stuck to the dashboard like its no big deal. now i smoke, so that isnot the issue...just sayin....and one day i asked how come the drivers keep changing and the mail gets later and later...she stated that since all the "fire" on the USPS, their supervisor gives them other duties to do before they deliver the mail...wtf? our mayor has even complained....

then, i also have a great friend who married a postal delivery man. he is dumber than a doorknob and even lazier. and a huge complainer. now, he is uneducated (hs only) and...too boot, they have a full life ins policy paid for by the govt....not huge, but, still, our 3 mil policy...we bought and paid for!!! and, he complains that his route is walking and in the summer/fall gets kidney stones due to the heat, etc....grow up, at least you have a good paying job w/ a regular paycheck...if his wife (my friend) did not come from $$$, they would be in a world of hurt. then he says he cant "relax" as his job is stressful...please, give me a break. try being in sales and really having to make it.

and, no, i dont think all usps workers are like this, but, imo, he is pretty much a great big loser! so, he and my current deliverer (who, btw, work out of the same office) are the type that give usps workers bad lazy names.

    off soapbox...

Its the same in all customer service fields. Some good, some bad. We used to have a postmaster that would get mad when you wanted to pay by credit card because she would have to log out of EBAY to use the phone line or get off the phone with her daughter. But I used my credit card because it was a business account and I could keep track of all my purchases for tax time. That lady retired last year. Thank goodness!
Now our post office ladies are so nice. One of them heard my daughter who is 5 and my son who is 3 ask my dh id they got any mail (they love mail) and they were disapointed when he said no. So, this lady went out and bought them each a card and mailed it to them so they would have mail! So sweet and thoughtful! I am so glad we have them

There seems to be a lot of stereotyping in this thread, be it intentional or unintentional.

Bolded emphasis above is mine. I sincerely hope that by referring to someone as uneducated because they have only completed high school is not a generalized stereotype of all people.

There are many forms of education and by many accounts, the actual education system here in the United States isn't always that great.

They recently changed our mailperson to-we received a little postcard about it in our mailbox. I was kind of bummed. I loved our mailman. We used to receive our mail promptly by 2 every day. Now, we're lucky if we get it by 6.

Anyone know how long it typically takes for a new person to adjust to the route?

I have to ship and mail things often. I pack them at home and then use my kitchen scale to weigh them. I then go on USPS.com and see what my options are. I also have a Fed-ex and UPS account that I check with too. I usually go cheapest route, but sometimes need to go the quickest or need tracking.

My point is, if you have a kitchen scale, you can do everything you need at home WITHOUT interation with the post office at all. I do this and usually have the PO pick up the package here the next day or if I am a rush drop it off there.

I agree that Customer Service is now pretty much gone. I deal directly with as few employees as I can at almost every company I deal with.

They changed our mail carrier at our first apartment and he never adjusted. He was always about 2 hours later. When they changed the carrier at my last job, the new woman was so unpredictable it made our accounts receivable girl crazy. She would get there anywhere from 10 am to 4 pm, there was just no telling. Hopefully your carrier adjusts lol.

I'm glad to hear someone likes their mailman. My husband is a mailman and he always has people calling the post office to commend him. It is the most thankless job in all kinds of weather with all kinds of obstacles on routes that most people don't even think of.

Please don't paint all postal workers with the same brush, and don't believe what you hear about their wages. What's posted on the net and what he brings home are very different. Plus the decrease in benefits. They are only a quasi-government agency, so most of the attacks leveled at government jobs do not apply to the USPS. They do not take a dime of taxpayers money, but are self-supporting, and for the (very) cheap price of a stamp, they have amazing service. Try mailing a letter in many countries of this world, and you will be glad to have what you have here.
Where I used to live the PO workers were GREAT!! They were always friendly and happy to help. Even those that were constantly busy and didn't really have time too help.

My new local office (I moved) isn't the same. Although they arn't rude, they are not friendly either. They are busy and really don't have time to answer my silly questions.

I think the attitude is just like anywhere else, a strong personality in the office either drives a positive or negative attitude.

Wife of retired mail carrier here & I'm a high school graduate.

With your carrier changed there is no telling when your mail will be delivered. Often times they change the route (aka:heap more on to it and ruin it) when a carrier leaves and if nobody wants that route it may be split among many until it does get assigned.

Depends too on the carrier, some pick up changes easily others do not. Hubby switched routes often and was a quick study.
Good luck all and like in any profession there is good and bad.
To OP, that clerk should be written up and then some.

Wow how did I miss this thread? I believe that if you feel if you received poor customer service then you have the option of reporting it. Same goes with the good or great customer service received. Do not feel ashamed for pointing out ways they can improve - how else are they going to approve? Sorry this happened to you and yes, I blame the full moon!

Do not fear the post office, continue to use it but when your turn is up and its 'him'...allow the person behind you to go in front so you can get the other person. *hugs*

I love my post office. Since we do alot of ebay selling. We do all postage online. I make a quick call to them letting them know im on my way. So they have a cart at the back door for me. I unload my van press the button she takes the cart to the check in area. Also hand her my letter mail if i have any. During the summer my mail comes around 9am fall and winter around 11 but never later then 1.
Being a mother of a Autistic child I think its great that they have someone working like that. I'm sure he can be annoying at times, but even normal people can be that.
