Default Just a update on daughter and grandsons

Well you all know my daughter and 2 grandsons moved in with us 3 weeks ago. I have to say the first week or lets say 10 days was really hard on me. For one the boys dad started a new job which through him off of when he was getting the boys. He did get them on Monday and Tuesday. But now he gets them every weekend. So it was a long and stressful 10 days. Hard for the kids to understand why dad wasn't getting them.
But happy to say they have calmed down so much. We got the playroom set with the tv,dvd, playstation and all there toys so that helped alot. They now have a set time for everything. Before they were shifted around because of my daughter work hours. Now she has a new job she works the weekends double shift when boys are with dad and works 1 night through the week when they are home and that's on a Friday night because the boys go to dads at 4 and she has to be to work at 5.So i have my weekends.
The oldest is in first grade here. Mommy had meet the teacher day for report cards today. They tested him at a 3rd grade reading and math level. So i was so happy to hear that.
The youngest is 3 and he has to help every night with dinner. So he washes the veggies for me. The oldest clears the table after eating. He earns 25 cents for every chore he does from mom and nana and papa match it. So in a weeks time he has made $2.50 and thats alot to a 6 year old.Of course can't forget the 3 yearold he helps to but we give in pennies and loves counting them in a bank that counts his coins.
The hardest thing is coming up with food ideas. Hubby hates veggies and fish on the other hand my 2 daughters and my self love them and the boys well might take a bite or 2. So coming up with good kid friendly recipes is tough.
I know i have gained weight since she has moved in because she works at a rib place they sell nothing but ribs and trimming. Well at the end of her shifts. She can buy muffins for 1 penny a pc. They just through them out if someone doesn't buy them. She also can buy bbq ribs for $1.00 a pound. Yeah thats why im putting on a few pounds.LOL But it's been great having her home and having my grandsons home... Taking less anxiety meds..

Thanks Libby. Right now im looking up some easy, healthy and cheap recipes that i can try. My daughter and grandsons lived on fast food so much because her schedule. If its not a fry-nugget or hamburger. They frown on it. But so far i have made enchilads, tacos, roast and veggies, baked chicken and veggies.Spagetti and meatballs. Looking to try some different stuff. This week.

Nana! I am so happy this worked out for you! I had a feeling it was going to be a great way to fill your days. And your grandsons sound like they're 2 bundles of joy. They're probably thrilled to be with you and your husband too, because it sounds like you both know how to have fun with them while teaching them at the same time. Little guys like that kinda stuff!

I'm so glad you took the time to fill us in on this. Sounds like it couldn't be any better!

Can you make homemade chicken fingers/nuggets & burger patties? Incl the two boys in the making of it and tell them that they're 'special' nuggets, burgers and fries - you can make oven fries. Maybe try making a homemade plum sauce to go with for dipping

glad to hear it has worked out thus far!

what about some tilapia...spread w/ dijon and mayo mixed together, put on sprayed baking sheet. top w/ panko or reg bread crumbs and bake. even my pickypickypicky (did i mention PICKY??) dtr will eat this! i also roast some taters to go w/..i just but them like fries and toss w/ OO and S & P and some season salt when done. dh and i eat sauteed garlic and spinach with it.

oohh for brkfst....eff "muffins" ...spray muffin tins....whisk eggs, milk, and pepper. in sprayed tins, put in either sauteed sausage, cooked bacon or cooked ham and sprinkle w/ shredded cheddar (or whatever cheese they will eat) pour in equal amount of eggs and bake. you can add chives if they will eat that, or be sneaky and chop in your proecessor either brocolli or spinach and add just a wee bit....these fo over well inour house. i can make 8 and then warm then in the micro as needed during the week.

will they eat soup? dd LOVES chix and rice soup...i make stock. thin down w/ water (just a small portion) boil some rice and mix and good and warming for lunch on the wknds for dd.

full family friendly meals are tough! some people and kids are picky.

dd LOVES to make meatballs w/ me. i make homemade sauce. bake the meatballs, and add a few to sauce while pasta boils and keep some plain just in case....then serve w. frsh grtd romano. great dinner along w/ salad or sauteed spinach (adults only in our house!! lol) and garlic bread.

tryin to be helpful so that the entire household can be happy at mealtimes!
leftover pasta is a great lunch!
