I ordered the book Back To Basics!
I'm so excited & can't wait to read it..I found another awesome blogging site..and the author mentions that if we lost our electric long term/our economy collapes would you have the skills or knowledge to be prepared and do various things that our ancesters did for years..I got thinking I don't really have that much knowledge..only from reading the internet is where I get 99%of my information ....I couldn't imagine not having all the conviences that we have today..but what if this really did happen? I bought 3 additional books that would cover all area's of surviving off the grid..Do you own survival/herbal medicine books? I own virtually none which is why I want to be prepared with actual reading material..

Very interesting!
I have a fascination with zombie/apocalyptic type books and movies and often wonder if my family would be one of those that could survive such an event. In my fantasies, the answer is yes, but realistically, I would be at a loss without my modern conveniences.
I think I'm gonna have to look at something like what you're reading, you know, just in case.Wife to Kenneth

Thanks for the titles! I'll have to check those out. My DH has been asking about an edible plant book to use as reference. We do own a medicinal plants & herbs book and also an outdoor survival book.

I have Back to Basics. I know you'll love it! I've had Forager's Harvest from the library and hope to get one of my own someday. I just bought Charcoal Remedies from Charcoal Remedies. A doctor I know said that every household should have one of these books so I got one for myself and one for Dd & SIL for Christmas

The subject of the collapse of civilization fascinates me too, and I like to think that I would have a reasonable set of skills to survive it.
But why is the word "zombie" associated with this scenario? I've seen it lots of places, but I don't get it. Is it a reference to some move that I haven't seen?

I have both Back to Basics and The Encyclopedia of Country Living. They are both great books. I think you will like the second one better than the first. BTB is pretty basic, of course if you are just starting out it is a great basic book. The second book is more in dept. Some other great books are Country Wisdom and Know How and Basic Country Skills, both of these are by Storey. Anyway enjoy you have got many hours of great reading ahead.

Nah, zombies don't have a thing to do with this particular subject; they just creep me out something terrible and I often fantasize about what I would do and how my family would survive in the event of zombie apocalypse. Not only would we have to do without modern conveniences, we would have to survive the undead. Scary stuff.
What scares me more than anything about the thought of societal collapse (whether it be zombie related or not, tee hee) is not necessarily my skills or lack thereof but the looters and bandits. Survival is going to have to include protecting your family, shelter and food from those who would gladly and brutally take them from you. Things could get very ugly.
Sorry for the hijack. I tend to get carried away with this topic.
