Schools around here are shut down tomorrow. My daughter gets herself up she is 15. So she is all excited about sleeping in. It will be one of those lazy days of winter. To cold to even be outside by morning wind chill will be -25 below.

School is closed here too. My kids had fun playing in the snow today and I'm sure they will tomorrow.

We had our first snow yesterday. Not even sure if it was an inch or two. We went from 55 degrees to the feeling of zero with the wind chill. It's about 11 degrees now. Thank goodness the hot flashes has slowed down!

I've had about enough of my kids this weekend. Thank goodness there is school.

Here they have declared all the schools surrounding us closed. Our school is always last. The wind is knocking the house hard. I have no doubt DS will be home. DD doesn't have school on Mon. and DH works at home. Supposed to be zero tomorrow after wind chill.

Take care all my friends who are in this severe winter weather - FW - perhaps you could declare a day to yourself - where everyone needs to pretend that you are not there and fend for themselves!! Is that too cruel!!

Enjoy the early start to Christmas vacation - as long as it lasts!!

None closed by us...but quite a few that are starting 2 hours late. Those are mostly the districts that serve more outlying areas, farmland.

I know DD was kinda sad that we still have school tomorrow. We rarely close though so I knew we weren't.

One district here is delayed 2 hours and the main one is closed, but they close if it's foggy. We live in the foothills and there are so many windy, narrow, curvy, hilly roads it's rediculous. Then there are the backroads, only the Amish dare to travel. We got about 2-3 inches so we are lucky. The people around the Great Lakes got hammered. Hope everyone stays warm and enjoys the kiddos.

Our schools do not close for cold weather. Bad roads yes, but not cold weather. The magic number for when the kids can stay indoors during lunch hour and recess is -27. If it is -25 they have to go outside to play.

Stay warm everyone and drive safe.

I know we are, cause I woke up to the sound of the kids across the street having a snowball fight. Took me back to when mine were kids.

OT: Oh, Mauimagic, you live in paradise. I haven't ever been to Maui, but I was in Oahu two months ago and didn't want to leave. It's the only place I've ever been that I liked as well (maybe better) than Southern California.

And the people on the island were just awesome. The friendliest, kindest, most relaxed people I've ever met.

Back on topic: I don't understand why schools make kids attend during horrid weather. Do they want to run down their immune systems even further? I could see if they were going to miss a month of school, but a few days could be made up at the end of the year, right?

I don't have children, so forgive my cluelessness. I just don't see the need for heroics.

We tend to run out of available storm days before we run out of terrible weather, so they save them for really severe conditions. I remember one year we had a snowstorm every three days in January, by the third one everyone pretty much gave up on cancelling stuff and just carried on like it was nothing.

Our climate is changing here though, now we get hurricanes instead of snowstorms. Today we are expecting 13ºC temperatures and 100km/h winds.
