I agree, let them face natural consequences.
A good book to read: the thinker's toolkit - might give you ideas to cope with losing/forgetting stuff for the unorganized.
My DH has ADD. We have everything for his life compartmentalized. It's easier for him to keep track of stuff.
He's still a clutterer, but it's gotten better.It is what it is.

Sounds like me with nice gloves. Always loose a glove the first couple of times I wear them.
I can be disorganized especially in the morning while trying to leave the house. I now make sure everything is packed in the evening and placed near the door. That way I know where everything is that I need for the day before I go out the door. Requires less thinking power in the morning. Maybe that will help them to start thinking about keeping track of things.
Growing up my mother always threatened to tie the house key around my neck because I always lost the key.
