My poor mom. She fell and broke her hip.
It happened on Boxing day, she is in the hospital. She is 78 and has already undergone surgery. I have barely slept, I am so worried about her. She has very bad osteoporosis.
Please pray that she will heal completely and quickly.
And please make sure you get enough calcium.

Sorry to hear that news.........not good at all........hope she comes through the surgery and heals fast and healthy. Hugs to you.........
Isn't she on Fosamax/Boniva or one of the others if she has the 'full blown' osteoporosis?

I feel so sad for your mother. At her age to break her hip is just terrible. My prayers are with her.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

Praying that your mom heals quickly. This is a very scary thing to have happen, especially with osteoporosis.

A work of encouragement:
I have an elderly friend - 82 years old - who broke her hip on Thanksgiving Day.
She had surgery, 2 weeks in rehab for therapy, and then went home.
She is doing great - not even using a walker.
It's amazing what those doctors can do these days.
Sending prayers for your mom...Jean

Bless her poor heart and yours too! This has not been a good year for you and I hope 2011 is better!
My mother has osteopenia (spelling oy!) and her bones are so thin and brittle the dr said if she falls something will break.
I started taking my citracal with vit d and magnesium faithfully when that was found out as I already have degenerative spinal disease.
You can stop these bone diseases from happening or at least getting to where our mothers and grandmothers were/are.
Work those bones now girls!
I hope your Mom gets better soon! The math never lies, budget in INK!

Very sorry to hear that. My mother is in her early 80's and has bad osteoporosis as well. She refused to take any meds, because she complains they make her sick. I finally got her in and had an IV med done. I think it is yearly (?) that she has to have it.
My paternal grandmother and my mother both had/have it, so I suspect I'm a candidate. Every time I hear about someone with osteoporosis breaking a bone, it motivates me to take my supplements and to keep up with the exercise.
I hope your mom gets out of the hospital soon. I know it will take a long time to heal, but just being home again will probably make her feel considerably better.DH aka Mad Hen

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! A friend of mine had to go to AZ recently for the same issue, to care for her mom who broke her hip. Thankfully there was also a sister that already lived in AZ so she didn't have to stay and miss work extensively. I hope you have a good family support system to care for her.
I already have osteopenia. This year is my density recheck to see if the regular extra calcium intake is helping or if I have to go on Boniva-type stuff already. (39 years old)LDR
