Last night sort of sealed the week as being one that I don't want to have again.
As I am going down the stairs, I manage to slip. It's four stairs. But they're carpeted and I'm wearing socks. So as I am falling, I slam my head on the ceiling (the ceiling is lower as you go down the stairs, but it's a square ceiling instead of a slope) so hard that I fall backwards. I then slam the back of my head onto the stairs and in turn, slam my upper back on the lower stairs.
I cannot begin to describe the amount of panic and pain that I was in. It's a cross between panic and pain and having the wind knocked out of me. I'm surprised I didn't pass out. So I am sitting at the bottom of the stairs in a hysterical state, screaming for DH. He's outside and it sends DS7 into a panic. I yell for him to get his daddy and when DH comes in the house, he comes to my aid. He had me wiggle my toes and move my legs. Thankfully, I could move both. I immediately get the worst headache ever and manage to stand back up.
This morning, I wake up in sheer pain. I can't really move my neck or my upper back. I've spent the entire day taking it easy, but yawning hurts. I can't lift both of my arms up to even fold a blanket. My right shoulder got knocked pretty hard last night and that's the one I injured in 1999, so I'm concerned about that. I've had muscle spasms and shooting pains through my arms and upper back all day.
I think the house is cursed.
So here's a warning:
Be careful when walking down the stairs. I suggest wearing slippers with knobs on the bottom.
Yes please see a doctor. U could have knocked your back out of line. I have done that several times. We have hard wood floors and steps. So i know first hand the pain.. Hugs.
MTTB - I wish you didn't write so well - I agonized each step of the way with your fall....no wonder your body is in so much pain. I agree that you need to get this checked out. Sending prayers, aloha and gentle hugs your way. Please keep us informed as to what's going on.
I'm sorry this happened. I've fallen down our carpeted stairs in socks too. I refuse to even wear socks or slippers anymore. There is a moment where you swear you aren't going to live.
Hoping you're feeling better soon. It's a terrible thing because you naturally will start to use some muscles to compensate for the lack of mobility in others and it makes the pain worse and recovery longer.
Might need to see a doctor. Medication would surely help with pain management.
So sorry to hear about this! I'll be praying for you that nothing serious is wrong. Please take care, if you don't feel any better, please see a doctor asap!
I'm sorry, hope you feel better soon! I fell on our carpeted stairs when I was wearing socks, a few years ago, when we were first in our new house, too! I was carrying an armload of stuff and fell smack on my butt and broke my tailbone. The pain was awful for weeks. I have a friend who recently broke her leg by just missing the last step, and a neighbor who is now permanently disabled by a fall on the stairs! You are not alone and it is so easy to get hurt on stairs. I go down slowly and hang on to the railing every time now, lol!
I told DH that if it isn't better by tomorrow, I'm going to see if I can find a walk-in clinic nearby. This hurts worse than the time I was tripped while rollerblading and dislocated my shoulder. I've been hearing popping and cracking all day long and that's just in my shoulders. I'm trying to stretch it out and see, but I don't want to overdo that.
You say you also hit your head hard enough to give you a headache. My dh hit his head at work one day. This was on a Thursday. By monday he was in the Er. He had no symptoms to speak of, just didn't feel like doing anything. He had a concussion bad enough he was off work for a week. He had a routine dr appointment and they sent him right to the er for a scan. So watch for little things that are out of the ordinary for you
Not to scare you but any time you hit your head and give yourself a headache you must go see a doctor right away. Sounds like you have some neck issues too.
When my neck acts up my shoulders and arms become weak and the muscles in my shoulders hurt!
Please go see a dr and take care of yourself. You had quite a fall.:hug2:
Don't wait to see if the pain will go away. My FIL just fell down the stairs last night and ended up with bleeding in the brain. Not expected to live. They thought originally it was just bleeding from the skin and maybe a concussion.
I agree with Maui, I too agonized each step of the way with your fall. I'm feeling the deep need to come and take care of you. OUCH!! You poor girl!
Please follow everyone's advice here and watch for any unusual changes, and go to the doctor if things don't improve. Oh ouch, really MomToTwoBoys, Ouch!
Ouch sounds you took a beating. I would just stay in bed for the day and have someone constantly monitoring you for any seizures. You will probably be really sore for then next 48 hours. I hope you feel better soon.
I have some spasms in my arms and throughout my back, but that's to be expected. No visible bruising on my back. I can almost raise my arms straight up in the arm, which I had trouble with for two days. I'm concerned mainly about my right shoulder, which I've had trouble with in the past. If it persists, I'll find a walk-in clinic to go to and have a referral done up for an orthopedic doctor. There's some slight tightness on the side of that shoulder.
I had an epsom salt bath last night with some muscle relaxants and ibuprofen. That seemed to help me sleep the best. I woke up yesterday morning unable to get out of bed. I had to have DH sit me up. Today, I didn't have that issue.
But I can definitely say that it's way better now. I'm having another epsom salt bath and then I'm heading to sleep.
I'll add another hug and agree that seeing a doctor for that shoulder is an excellent idea.
