Almost 100 pounds of Rocks on a plane..
My hubby and son just got back from Tuscon.. My hubby is a rock/mineral collector and one of the reasons he went to Tuscon was they have the biggest rock/mineral show in the country..
Well, he spent some $$$ there and as I watched him walking from the plane last night, he was struggling with the luggage and also son was with his, come to find out there was almost 100 pounds of rocks/minerals total that they were rolling/carrying, it looked so pathetic I was laughing..
Just wanted to share this.. I wish I could of video taped it...Mom of 4

Sounds like shades of "The Long Long Trailer" - an old movie with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez - check it out for similarities!!

I hope the carrier didn't charge by weight. Most people I know ship their rocks by Priority Flat rate boxes. I got an order last year...2 large FRBs - 97 lbs rock for around $30. I'm a collector, cutter, seller.

I'm a geologist, so I understand this. LOL
I once filled a medium sized Flat Rate box to the gills with rock samples. It only weighed 27lbs.
They say you can put up to 70lbs in a flat rate box. I calculated for filling the box with the heaviest minerals (like galena) and it still wouldn't weigh 70lbs.
I was just talking today with someone about the Tucson gem and mineral show.

My mother filled the trunk of the car with rocks she had collected while traveling. The car was shipped all the way back from Europe to the US.
