Would you wear long sleeves to a wedding in summer?
I've got to attend a wedding this summer. In Dallas. (aka, hot weather).
I've got a long-sleeved navy dress that I'd like to wear.
Would that look inappropriate?2012 Knitting in progress

I don't think it would look inappropriate but Dallas is really really hot in the summer. Will you be in AC the whole time?

I suspect we will be in air conditioning for the wedding and the reception.
All of my other dresses are black; I don't want to wear black to a wedding. And I doubt that a skirt and blouse would be fancy enough.2012 Knitting in progress

Could you do back with a colorful scarf and accessories? Are the dresses the type you could add a colored belt too?
As long as your in AC long sleeves should be ok as long as it is a lighter weight fabric.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

I used to live in DFW and I doubt you will want long sleeves or black in the summer -- hot, sunny and humid. On just the trip from the car to the event you will be soaked. If you must choose from the two, go with the coolest black dress you have (I've seen lots of black at weddings.) Make it "happy" lovely little bolero in the wedding/complementary colors or a metallic if it is evening.

I don't see a problem with a black dress at a wedding, the bridesmaids in my wedding were wearing black dresses. The guests ranged from suits to the people who took my recommendation on shorts and Hawaiian shirts. I felt my guests were taking time out of their life to be a part of mine, they might as well be comfortable.
Anyway, I was in Dallas last summer for a wedding. I believe I wore slacks and a long sleeved shirt, but we didn't spend much time outside in our dress clothes.

I live in Houston and it is already starting to get warm (upper 70's). I am already wearing shorts and tank tops. I wouldn't dream of wearing long sleeved ANYTHING in the summer in Dallas.

My upper arms are 75years old and look it! So when DGD gets married in late June in southern Texas, I'll wear sleeves. Maybe I'll find a nice lacy-sleeved dress, but I gotta have the coverup.

When, exactly in the summer? Because June in Dallas and August in Dallas can be separated by 10*. It also depends on the time of day. At a morning wedding you will probably be comfortable, at 2pm probably not. Is it indoors or out? My guess is the reception will be indoors and air conditioned as someone said already. Finally, how do you handle heat?
From a fashion point of view, I don't see a problem with long sleeves. I also think a blouse an skirt would be just fine, unless it has been stated that this is a formal wedding. Otherwise people are very casual about dress these days. People will be showing up in jeans.Use it up, Wear it out,

Yes, you'd wear long sleeves? Or yes, you'd find it inappropriate?

BTW, I'm well into middle-age and, sadly, overweight. No slinky sundresses for me!
It'll be a fairly formal wedding -- a Catholic Mass followed by a reception. And the bride is in law school.
I don't yet know what time of day.
If I can lose the weight, I have something slightly similar to this. Actually, mine is a skirt and jacket in the same blue, with white piping on the jacket. It would be appropriate, I think. I would have to lose quite a bit to fit in it though.2012 Knitting in progress

I think it's perfectly appropriate. Can you turn up the long sleeves a bit if you're overly warm?

I'd go with black before I'd go with long sleeves. I think the no black at weddings rule has gone the way of the white wedding dress symbolizing virginity.
I've worn black to weddings, I've seen plenty of black at weddings. I've seen bridesmaids wear black at weddings. I don't think long sleeves would look inappropriate, but I'd worry about sweating bullets all day.
