christmas time i cut out pic from ads with the actual store its the cheapest at and the size / scent / color like lol

birthday he usually saves some of his " allowance " aka free spending money and he gives me cash or a gift card .

i guess i am picky in some ways but its more i know what i like and hate money being wasted on something i wont use - i have issues with certain styles of clothes - fabrics etc due to my fibro sensativities to seams etc . so clothes wise purse wise etc i dont think anyone could buy me something but me- i was at a outlet center this past weekend had money saved to buy a nice purse and came home empty handed because none the size style or color i liked whether at a cheap store outlet or a $$ one.

of course he knows i collect willow tree angels so could just go in and ask for the most recent ones to come out and be fine that way too .

i also have alot of sensativities to perfumes and scents allergies to creams lotions etc .

i wear a size 5 shoe and the poor guy once bought me XL slippers for christmas as he didnt know slippers came in sizes LOL

what woman wouldnt want a massage ? What man wouldn't want a few bags of beef jerky?[/QUOTE]

i wouldnt use a massage - between my allergies to lotions - chemical sensativities to smells and my fibro i could end up in alot of pain after a massage .

no one in my family likes beef jerky - if i gave that as a gift i would get some mighty crazy looks lol

but i agree that if you watch what people do what they like you can come up with some sort of a gift .

When my dh gives me cash for my b-day he is actually giving me a dbl gift . i LOVE to shop and bargain hunt -looking thru clearance racks is fun to me - even though i might have that $ a few months before i actually see something i like enough to spend it on = i get the shopping enjoyment also .

Well, my husband would want the beef jerky, if that makes you feel better?

I would hate a massage, though. I don't like being touched by strangers... I once went for a facial that was a gift (because I didn't want it to go to waste - even though I didn't want to go) and was MISERABLE the entire time.

I'm so glad to see there is someone else like me about massages. Thanks for the post. Dh does like beef jerky.
I have always started listening to people I buy for in August or September and can usually come up with a good gift. The only exception is my mil. She is very content with what she has and it has always been a chore to find a gift for her. Because of that I have always said that if my sons ask what I want for Christmas I will come up with some choices for them.

I also heard something at Christmas time that I thought was a GREAT IDEA. Because of all the THINGS everybody keeps getting and cluttering up their space; GIVE an experience. I even thought that was a good idea for kids.

Dh and I married nearly 24yrs really don't do the b-day or Christmas or Mother's day thing. We do go out to eat from time to time. Not often. Sometimes we do a card for each other. Once in a while he will suprise me with flowers for our ANV. (I wish he wouldn't spend the money for them. they are nice but they die after a few days.) This past year at Christmas and for Anv(Dec 18th) We bought tile and Cut our Tub/shower out of bathroom and we are tileing a shower unit. The labor is free from a good friend. We are really happy with that. It's also good just to take time off and just spend time together. TC and Hope you have a great B-Day.

How are they any more unnecessary than anything else that brings a smile to someone's heart and face?

I worry about being hard to buy for but so far the bf has come up with some good gifts.

Once he sent a huge box of hand warmers for myself and my critters as I was worried about the power going out during the winter. Another time he sent me a heated mattress pad " to keep warm when he isn't home" (we are long distance) so basically things to comfort me that he knows I am too tightwad to buy myself.

Yah, I suck at this money stuff, I know. That's why I'm here.

My husband and I no longer exchange gifts for special occasions.
Several years ago we mutually agreed not to do this. We were ending up buying things for each other that neither one of us wanted or needed just for the sake of buying something. We are both very happy with this arrangement.

I agree with some of the other members, where after many years together, gifts although thoughtful, can end up as clutter.

For this years B.day gift, I plan to have dh take me on a small shopping trip to buy a few items each off the wish lists of the local food pantry and animal shelter for donations. I find this more satisfying than just sending them a check, mostly because the planning and shopping is something I find enjoyable. And knowing how much it's helping is a great feeling!

My birthday was a few days ago and my husband's gift to me was that we made my birthday cake together (which was mainly me making it and him pointing at ingredients and asking me what they were for) - but it was fun and it tasted amazing! He also wrote me a love letter which was very sweet. He asked me what I wanted and I honestly couldn't think of anything that I wanted enough to write down the dollar amount on our household budget and deal with trying to find the $$ for it later. His birthday is coming up and I am planning on just cooking him a really nice meal and writing him a love letter too and leaving it at that.

LOL only about the massage and jerky - but then i agreed with you that if someone knows someone they should have an idea what to get them .

i think some people are just bad gift givers and know it - better than a bad gift giver who doesnt know it ( cough mil cough )
