    Default Northern Lights

Anyone else out there fortunate enough to see the light shows from time to time? We had some activity tonight, so I had another chance to break out the camera. These were taken between 7:00pm and 8:00pm today (March 1st).

We are in a fairly active area, so we are graced with their presence on a relatively frequent basis. I'm just starting to get into photography, and they are somewhat of a challenge to capture, but I think I'm doing alright.

I usually watch two sites to see when there is going to be activity:

SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids

The Geophysical Institute Auroral Forecast Page

I'm hoping to eventually get enough good photos to make up a calender or something along those lines. These are just a few of them, I took about 50 tonight.

I haven't seen them in years. When I was growing up in Montana, we used to get them. We would sit out on the porch and watch them.

I would love to see them someday! The pictures are beautiful, but I'm sure they don't hold a candle to seeing the real thing.

I've been to Alaska twice, and to Norway, above the Arctic Circle, but only in the summer, so, too light to see the northern lights. Someday...

They really are. We've seen them so intense it looks like they are right over your head, like you can stick up your hand and push them around, and the whole sky is dancing with greens, red, pinks, etc...

    Thanks everyone!

Always, always, always wanted to see the Northern Lights. Unfortunately, south Texas is just a wee bit southerly for any such viewing, Ah well, someday. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.

Haven't this year.........and the one time they said we might be able to......it was too cloudy.......I checked.

The people north of town will get more clearing and they can see them...sometimes.

    Great idea on the calendar!!

I remember seeing them as a child. We were in the alps at the time.

Would love to see them again!
