NJ Sheltie Rescue desperately needs help - update in post 18
http://www.legendsofwestwood.org/greebo/hoarder.pdf
Our local Sheltie Rescue organization has sent out a call for help for a neighboring group.
If you are in the Mid Atlantic region and could at all possibly foster a dog who's lived in a literal hell until now, please read the attached.
Thank youIf you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

We were not provided with that information but I will assume NOT. The neighbors of that house had complained to authorities and the ASPCA many times. And a Rescue had taken 10 dogs out of the house 6 yrs ago... so I am thinking that NO one wants to step in from any local authority to help those animals.

That is all just so wrong! Recently 27 horses near our home were rescued. I'm disgusted to say that myself and about 8 other people routinely called for about a year before they were taken away. No matter how skinny they were as ,long as animal control saw feed when they went they stayed. When in reality the owner rarely feed them it was the rest of us! A lot of us stopped by feeding them what we could but not enough for 27 horses. Finally they saw the poor horses had eaten the bark on every tree and were eating mud. One lost an eye to infection. That was enough to rescue them FINALLY!
It made the papers and the news and the owner had his day in court. None of the press mentioned a bunch of us had been calling in over and over to have them rescued for over a year! It was deplorable they had to be skin and bones and one lost and eye for animal control to finally be able legally step in. GRRRR I'm just so grateful they were taken.
I hope the dogs get rescued. Animals are to loving and trusting to be treated like that.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

NJ Sheltie Rescue desperately needs help
I wish I lived closer, I would volunteer. I don't think I've ever had a dog or a cat that wasn't a rescue.

Oh Gosh, both stories are just awful. I just don't understand people.
I would foster one of these dogs in a heartbeat if we had a fence property. I fostered an abused Pitbull years ago. She took a lot of TLC, but eventually she was adoptable. I really hope that others out there have it in their hearts to give a home to these dogs. They deserve a chance to be loved, to have a little one wrap their arms around their neck, and sneak them treats from under the supper table. Every dog deserves to be loved, this is heartbreaking.~~~

Ok, Greebo you didn't come back...the post I made on facebook, the lady who got ahold of me almost immediately about the dogs. I messaged her and she messaged me back. She's already emailed them and she's seriously interested in either fostering or adopting at least one if not two of the dogs. Problem is she will either need the dogs brought to her or met half way on the trip. She's taken dogs before. My fingers, eyes and toes are crossed..I just talked to her and told her to let me know what she finds out. Praying for someone to meet her half way. She's in Tennessee. Wouldn't this be great.

That's excellent news, Niko - sorry I didn't get back to you last night - I was exhausted. But then again, she did the only thing I could have suggested - email them directly.

I know there are rescues for different breeds along the east coast. I'm sure arrangements can be made so no one person has to travel the entire distance. Being closest to NJ, I know I can travel several states to start 1-2 wonderful shelties to their foster or forever home.

K, Ceashels, does this mean you could meet her half way? I'm not totally clear and would like to be before I contact her...I haven't heard from her today but she messaged me again last night and said she was excited. That would mean you would have to pick them up. I don't know what the half way or how far you're willing to go. She's in Tennessee. Let me know.

I just want to try to answer this one from an Animal Control perspective - They can't legally remove an animal until the law has been broken. Sometimes this may take longer than we like - to PROVE in court that an animal is abused/neglected.
Also, when you continue to feed/care for a neighbors pet/horse/whatever - even though that's what we all feel we need to do - you're making it more difficult for animal control to PROVE neglect.
It's not a great system, but it's what we're stuck with for now - so please remember that even if it seems animal control isn't helping - they may be trying to the best of their current ability.
We hope so anyway.Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die
