Lobectomy/ RAI Advice Needed
I am unexpectedly facing this.....anyone else ever had to go through this??? Can anyone tell me what to expect?? From the research I have done, I am dreading the isolatation from my family more than I am of the surgery/illness. If anyone feels comfortable sharing their stories I would love to hear them. Thanks

My best friend had a radiation treatment last summer - indeed the hardest part for her was the isolation. She also injured her back at the same time, which, of course made everything worse.
Her advice is this: "It won't be easy but try to set aside some things that you will enjoy that are difficult to do with the kids around. Store up some books that you are just dying to read. Bring your laptop and do some research and projects that you haven't had time for. Reserve some good movies that might not be family appropriate. Be prepared for the isolation - you will feel it - but you will get through it and treasure your family all the more when you are able to be with them."
From me: Prayers, hugs, and concern. Take care!

I'm sorry to hear you are facing this situation. I don't have any advice about the treatment itself, but from you screen name I gather you have a lot of kids who most likely depend on you. My only advice is, if you're up to it or can be nearby to direct others, get some meals prepped and frozen for your family. Knowing they're well-fed while you can't be with them should make things a bit less stressful and worrisome for you during your recovery.
Good luck with your procedure.

My husband had the lower lobe of his right lung removed 4 years ago. The first 3 days after surgery were pretty rough, but after that he improved greatly each day. I'm thinking that I have read that this procedure has been improved since he had his surgery. If you would like to ask any questions, feel free to ask.
Sending hugs your way!Dixie Jean

when you say lobectomy do you mean lung or are you talking thyroid ( which makes more sense with the RAI to me ) ??
what kind of computer do you have - do you have more than 1 in the home.
if so any webcams ?
you can play games from other rooms etc on the computers - scrabble etc .
i found this message board on facebook when doing a search on the isolation time to refresh my memory
they had a post about the isolation time etc

Thyroid cancer is the kind my best friend had too. She is completely cancer free now, btw.
She also never had any symptoms that she noticed. When she was pregnant with her second child, she went to the dentist who noticed something unusual. He sent her for tests and they discovered she had cancer. She had to wait to deliver her baby before she could be treated. They brought little Noa early via C-section and two weeks later she had her surgery. She had a second surgery and then radiation and that was it. Not that 3 surgeries in 6 weeks is minor, of course.
Of all the cancers in the world, the doctors told Sandra this was the "best kind." It is highly treatable and has the best outcome.
My prayers will be with you through this. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. (((hugs)))
