    That is very creepy.

I have had visitors on and off for as long as I can remember. It seems to have been passed on to DD as well. Mom, sister, grandmother etc. So I guess it is just the women in my family. I told DD once that she just needed to tell them to go away that they are scaring her and that they are not welcome in her home.

But still creeps me out when it happens and it has been happening forever to me.

When I was growing up, we had a "spot" in the hall where, if I stood in the kitchen, I could see a man standing in the hall, but only in the corner of my peripheral vision. If you concentrated, you could sometimes see him move, as if he were talking in a silent movie. It used to freak me out BIG time. And once, only once, I heard someone call me by name from that same spot. I didn't tell anyone, because I was kind of a creepy little kid who loved sci-fi and horror, and my mother was already afraid of me.

Our house was brand new, built by my parents on the land that used to be my grandfather's dairy farm. (He split it into thirds and gave one third to each of his kids.)

FF to early adulthood, shortly after my dad's death, when my mother sold the house and moved out. She told me, in the short weeks after she moved, that she couldn't stay in the empty house any more. And one of the reasons she couldn't stay was because she had always seen the same thing I had seen as a kid, some guy standing in the hallway, just visible at the edge of your vision, and now that mother lived alone in the house (my sister and I had moved out long before my father's death), it freaked her out too much.

My cousin moved into the house after my mother moved out. She reports the same creepy sensation that she is being watched when she is in the kitchen, even though neither of us mentioned it to her.

In the same house, I was alone there one afternoon, having come home from school, and both parents at work. I went into the bathroom, and closed the door out of habit. Shortly afterward, I very clearly heard the door to the garage opening. We had a dog at the time, a collie-mix, and he slept in the garage. After I heard the door opening, I heard what I thought were his toenails clicking on the floor as he came into the house. I called out his name, and the nails made their clicking way to the bathroom door. Suddenly, I was terrified, and I knew it wasn't my dog. I didn't call out again, because I now didn't want whatever was in the house to know I was there. The nails clicked their way to the bathroom door, and I could hear sniffing under the door, as well as the shadow of something dog-like moving on the other side. I drew myself up onto the toilet, so nothing looking under the crack in the door would see my feet. The sniffing went on for a bit, then the nails clicked away. Of course, it took me about half an hour to work up the courage to open the bathroom door and check the house. Nothing. And the door into the garage, the one I heard being opened? Shut and locked. I opened it, and my dog was in the garage, hiding under a car, trembling in fear.

Wow Madhen. . I'm not going to sleep very well tonight after reading that!!!!! I have always experienced "visitors". Mostly I think they were just passing through. My Mom and DD are the ones that see people. My DD drew a lot to her as a young girl. She always talked about "the men" in the closet. She would talk in a different voice when she slept and whenever we crept to the door to listen, she would stop talking. Walk away and it would start back up again until you got close. We would hear banging in her closets at night. So hard we could feel the vibration on the other side of the wall. We would hear hangers move and sounds like someone digging in her closet. But when we went into the bedroom, she was across the room fast asleep. Closet doors shut and nothing disturbed in the closet. I had to seek the advice of a Hungarian psychic who told me how to get them to leave. Never heard of them again and DD never saw them again. She stills sees people sometimes, but not often. I think she has managed to close it off a lot.

We have some weird things that have happened since childhood (dh &I)...and its carried over into our adult lives. It doesn't help matters that our house is 41 yrs old & must have some kind of history b/c some events have escalated in the 13 yrs we have lived here....we have all heard/saw strange things....some of us have" sleep paralysis" where things have happened & we feel "frozen"...yet we are fully aware of what is going on around us....Personally....(I know this may sound crazy)....it doesn't bother me too much...maybe b/c I'm so use to have seen things all of my life that it doesn't phase me???? In the middle of the night, If I wake up & see/hear/feel something...it's like..."okay, whatever, I'm going back to sleep"....don't know if that's weird or not.lol.

Grew up in a house where we all KNEW we had at least a couple of permanent visitors.

It was a 100+ year old house that once was a place that Lon Chaney?? (Man of a 1000 faces) once resided for a bit. We would all be in the livingroom and we all would hear foot steps in front of the woodstove where the floors creaked.

Both my parents had different experiences at a different times seeing a young child either on the foot of the bed or the edge of the couch, and just as they went to call one of our names they vanished, and each time they checked us and we were all asleep..

Strange little things like that. I like stuff like that. My DH and kids don't believe, but I do.

i love these stories...its just best to read them in daylight..lol
i have had all sorts of things happen...
my parents house was always strange..she never did the research on it..said she was scared too but we called the ghost "george" dont know why

but this year my parents gave me their living room set...nice leather..well within a week we woke up to someone in boots stomping around the living room..and we had closed our bedroom door which we never do so i dont no why we did that night..but my husband crept to the door and opened it really fast ready to tackle someone and NO one was there..the doors were locked the dogs were pissed..lol
i told george to go back home

its werid how my husband n me will talk about something we both seen or heard and then he "forgets" it ever happened

we have both seen a shadow figure of a man..he is usually near the wall where it turns to the short hall way

when we first moved in here 5 years ago my husband worked out of town alot..and i always had that frozen feelin in bed where i couldnt move but i heard or saw things...the door bells would go off, knocking on the front door..but no one was there ONCE i could get up..

i remember (this is weird and i have told few people) my bedroom faces the hall..its not a big house the hall is really small which leads straight to the living room or turn a foot to the bathroom and another bedroom
anyways i was asleep but awake and turned facing the hall and could see spirts? or something flowing towards me scary ones it was faces with whispery trails..and i couldnt move i kept trying to get my self to jump i remember trying so hard i was so scared and then it was like sleep claimed me and then it was morning

All your stories freak me out!!

We have visitors as well. We have an old empty farmhouse on our property that faces our house about 600 feet away. The hallway window on the second floor looks towards us. Once in a while we see the little old grandmother in her rocking chair in that upstairs window. Kind of comforting as she always sat there when she was alive watching over her property. Once in a while a few friends will stay in there overnight if they can't to home and many different occasions we have heard stories from them of waking around midnight to see a party going on in the livingroom area. These ghosts are dressed in old style clothing and having a grand time. Quite a few different people have told us that. So we just call it the spook house.

I have had a few strange things happen to but oddly they did not begin until my Grandfather died when I was 20. My first experience was very vivid and happened several times in different places. At home, In the car, even a time or two at work (when I worked). I will be there and busy and there is an overwhelming smell of cigar smoke. It comes and goes pretty quickly but it's unmistakable. My Grandfather is the only man I have ever personally known who smoked cigars. It isn't scary to me at all though. It's kind of comforting. One time though something quite scary happened and it was over in a flash but still gives me goosebumps. I was laying in bed reading. Everyone else was sound asleep and the house was quiet. Our house is very small and there is no missing someone being up and moving around. As a matter of fact the kids couldnt get out of their room without walking right past mine. The doors are about 3 feet apart. I was laying there and in a distinct clear not so friendly voice from the hall I heard "Kim, come here". Needless to say the chances were ZIPPO I was getting up . It never happened again and I hope it never does.

The night before my brother died - he was a long haul trucker and died in an accident - my cousin had a nightmare involving a traffic accident. During the dream her father (who had passed away a year or so earlier) came to her and said he was there to help. When she woke up she smelled cigarette smoke even though nobody had smoked in the house except for him. She had a similar dream and visitation from her father right before another family member passed.
