Now I've heard it all. Just watched a segment on the news about Abercrombie selling padded and pushup bikini tops for girls as young as 7 and 8 years old? WTHeck??? What do you think about that?
I have heard several of these horror stories and when I investigate them, they've always turned out to be unfounded. Remember when walmart was supposedly selling bras for 5 year olds? Well it was one blogger who was mad about the fact that she was able to find a bra in her daughter's size. (And as outraged as she was, she did buy it for her kid.) I looked up the size, and I'm quite certain that in order for her kid to fit into it, she'd have to be overweight. Regardless, the fact that a 5 year old can fit into a bra is nothing to get upset over because there's some really skinny tweens out there.
It's really not the manuafacturer's fault if your kid 8 year old is big enough to wear clothes meant for teen, you know?
Anyway, I go off topic.
I just looked at Abercrombie's site, and there are no pushup bras. They're "lightly lined", which is absolutely essential when girls are going through the awkward stage of development that causes their nips to stick out. Anyone else remember that stage?
The bikini swimsuit tops they are talking about are for sale at aracrombie and finch kids. They run in size small to extra large the size chart says a small is for those 56 inches tall and with bust size of 27.5. The net news articles say that aracrombie and finch kids has changed the discription of the swim suit top from push up triangle to stripped triangle and has removed the words padded
At first I thought what? But thinking about it girls do develop earlier. Does seem like a hard call unless you can actually see and feel the tops in person.
I only buy my 10 year old padded bras and swimsuits. She has serious "nipple issues" that show right through something unpadded. I think as adults we hear "padded bra" and think about people using them to make their chests look bigger. We, however, use them to camoflauge the nips.
I think it would depend if the girl had breast or not. I was 9 when I started wearing bras because well I developed very very early. I have a problem with low ride pants for girls, thongs for girls, Shirts that say things like sexy etc for girls. When I worked at the sexual assault centre we did a whole day on the early sexualization of girls.
Maybe some would call me a prude but I wouldn't have let my dd wear those string bikini tops. If my dd wore a bikini she wore a racer back top with full frontal coverage and no mini bottom either or she wore a one piece. I get the extra nip coverage but man, a string bikini on kids & teens? Nope.
Ooh - didn't even notice the string part!!! Nope, we don't do that either. My girls also wear boyshort type swimsuit bottoms. I really don't understand the complete lack of modesty in today's fashions for kids.
You know what else I hate? Writing across their butts~! I saw some sweat pants for a little girl that had "HOTTIE" across the butt! What's up with that!!!
Lol, I didn't even think about the fact that it was a string bikini either. I've yet to encounter this particular issue though, since neither of my kids are willing to wear a two piece. I tried to get my oldest to wear a tankini type thing once because it was all we had at the moment, and she wasn't havin' it.
Edited because I realized I said "neither" when I actually have 3 kids. My youngest would be happy to run around nekkid.
wasnt this the same store that had things for little girls a few years back and then pulled them too.
now i underdtand sometimes if they are in certain sports like gymnastics etc they are used to avoid the super wedgie factor but seems that would be better sold at a sports or specialty store for dance etc not out in display at a store .
my 14 yo wears a girls size 12 bathing suit ( her best friend wears a misses 7/8)
we will buy at justice because they are made with a little padding # 1 for nipple issues as stated above # 2 for feeling a little more self confident - alot of her friends are fully developed or close to it and she is just starting out and if she takes after me wont have alot on top anyway so at least she doesnt feel like she is 8 yo . but its not a ton of padding just a thin amt to hide things and give the top a little more even curve and it certainly isnt a string bikini . and #3 they usually cover better without looking little kid like .
i see underwire bras at JCP in the little girls section that are like a 30 AA if you are a 30 AA you need no underwire - but the kids want to be grown up and the moms give in .
Are they pushup tops, or are they padded? I see how they could be similar, but have completely different functions. I had a bigger problem with the fact that they were string bikinis, than the padding.
