DS7's first adult tooth came in... but this is the oddest thing I've ever seen.
So, I'm out with my MIL and SIL and DN (Dear Niece) today for lunch. While we're out and having a chat, the subject matter comes up about DS7's teeth. I can't remember how, but it did.
Then tonight as I am having my nightly chat with DS7, I notice something in his mouth. I thought it was a piece of leftover meat (we had fried chicken) and after having him open his mouth for me, I discover that it's his first adult tooth. It's sitting considerably further back from his two lower front teeth. It's fully come in also, which has me concerned. Why it didn't come in and push the baby tooth out, I'll never know.
DH said it happened to him as a kid, but his came down in the roof of his mouth up top.
Now I get to contact a pediatric dentist that will, hopefully, give me good suggestions on how to fix it. I mean, how do you even fix something like that?
If anyone has ideas, please feel free to share. Otherwise, I'm looking at having to start saving for braces.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

It happened with me and my oldest son as well....I missed him having his "two front teeth" missing because the adult teeth were behind the baby teeth....They will push forward once the baby teeth come out...mine did and so did my son's. It seems to be very common.

It happened to one of my kids too, the dentist had to pull the baby tooth and the other worked it's own way into position. Hope it works (easily, pain-free and inexpensively) like that for your son.

Same with my kiddoes - we referred to them as "shark teeth".They WILL go into place once the baby teeth are gone.

Yep, happened to me too. I had to have about half of my baby teeth pulled as the adult teeth started coming in. Oh and just FYI, the tooth fairy pays double if you have to get the baby tooth pulled.

Thanks everyone

I thought that it was odd because it's considerably further back from the baby teeth. But I asked DS7 this morning if his tooth was loose and he goes 'Yep! See?' and wiggled it for me. I'm hoping it does come in and push forward. DH and I are still planning on things "in case" because knowing my dental history, I don't exactly have the best genetic makeup for dental stuff.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

DS #3 recently had to have oral surgery. He had 2 adult teeth growing in. The most obvious one was malformed so that is the one that came out. We are still waiting on the regular tooth to come in. It's in there, just taking it's sweet time.

Baby teeth have roots just like adult teeth, but they get dissolved as the adult teeth grow in. Our orthodontist said that the adult tooth "eats" the baby teeth. That's why when a baby tooth falls out, it's just flat on the bottom. It wouldn't have been held in the gums for so many years if it had always been like that. If the root of the baby tooth doesn't dissolve soon enough, the adult tooth doesn't have anywhere to grow into because the baby tooth's root is taking up it's space. Instead, it will grow either in front of or behind the baby tooth.
This happened to me when I was a kid. My ortho fixed it with a retainer. ETA it's still slightly crooked. It doesn't always go back into place, and some orthodontic work is better done at certain ages. I'd find a good orthodontist for a consult.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

I had something similar and had to wear braces for 5 years. Hopefully there's an easier fix these days.
