~If my kids were doing something stupid like this I hope someone would yell at them the way you did. WTG! Who knows what the dog would have done if they'd kept provoking it like that. ~

WTG don't feel bad for hollaring at the children. They were being mean to the dogs. If I see children doing something they shouldn't I get on to them even if they are not mine ( if their parents are not around and I let the parent know that I got on to there child and why. I expect people to say something to my children if I'm not around and they are doing something they aren't suppose too. TC

You did the absolute right thing, Cricketlegs. All of God's defenseless creatures must be spoken for. I would have done exactly the same thing!

Dd and I were getting in out last mile on our walk and we always walk by this one house with 2 dogs that are always alone in the back yard just laying there.

They always seem so sad so I always say "hi puppies!" to them even though I have no idea really what kind of life these dogs have. They could be 100% happy and content for all I know.

So, we are walking and turn the corner and I see the dogs are not laying in their usual places and low and behold I see a little boy back there.

My first reaction was "awww joy they have a playmate today!'

That was until I see the kid with a stick and he goes around the corner and I just had a really bad feeling so when we got closer I saw 3 kids hitting that dog with sticks and the older girl hauls off and kicks him right in the side. This is a smallish yellow lab mix.

I said "HEY! DON'T YOU KICK THAT DOG!" really loud. Loud enough for the parents and another adult to come out and yell towards the kids.

Dd and I just kept walking and they never said anything to me. My poor dd cried half a mile all the way home. I told dd we can adjust our walk to not go that way again.

I hope that if the parents didn't put some fear into those kids for the right humane reasons, then they did from the embarassment of a total stranger seeing what it was they were raising.

There were 3 large dogs back there. If one of them snapped and bit one of those kids the dog would have been destroyed no questions asked.

I can't stand mean kids. I abhor people who hurt defenseless animal more.

I still can NOT believe I hollared though. It was just a reaction.

If I had had my cell I would have taped it and call animal services.

    Grrr.
Please call animal cruelty and tell them what you saw so they can investigate. That dog needs to be in a loving caring home; because you are right about that dog biting them and someone blaming the dog. SHAME on those adults who live there.

I yell at kids on my street all the time. I believe if they ARE in the wrong and their parent is not there to tell them no, it is my responsiblity as an adult to discourage them. I would hope that if my child (who had better never) was being "wrong" in what ever situation, another adult would stop them. I usually let the parent know "I had to yell at so and so because he was climbing in the neigbors tree.".. I don't think I have ever been told not to. If they were doing something to an animal, I would probably yell at them, get their parents and a whole lot more. I am sorry you had to go through with this with your DD....

There are times to yell at someone else's child. This was one of them.

I just hope that the kids didn't learn to abuse others first hand sort of speak from the adults in the house. They had to learn it somewhere.

Maybe you should keep an eye on what goes on around there.

I am not saying that is what is happening, it was just a thought.

Yes, but unfortunately sometimes the kids live with the village idiot. That was probably NOT the first time they did this and won't be the last. They needed theirs backsides lit up old fashioned...or kicked...or beat with a stick...then maybe they wouldn't do it again.
