Default I'm going to be an Avon Lady!

Has anyone tried this or is one currently? I'm giving it a go, just for some extra pocket change. If anyone has been one...what is the average income I can expect from it? I work in as a hairdresser in a salon....My coworkers do buy quite a bit of avon...although our avon lady is quite unreliable, as she is an alcoholic, she has lost orders, can't figure out what everyone owes etc. So I figured I would take over the duty! I know it's not a huge income...but would just like an idea. I'm going to meet with the regional Avon representative who's going to get me all set up and give me all supplies, this morning. I'm excited.

Congratulations! I've never tried it, but it sounds like you've got a great built-in customer base already!

My Mom worked for Avon customer service in Ohio (although after training they set her up with a home office...(dream job?!). The building was HUGE..part corporate, part factory with an amazing company store where you could buy grab bags on Tuesdays for $7 that guaranteed at least $75 worth of clothing in each bag...needless to say, I didn't have to buy bras, nighties or tops for a long time.

Anyhoo...what a wonderful woman-run company, they treated their workers with such respect and gratefulness. While working there my stepfather became terminally ill, they gave her all the time off she needed to take care of him and still kept up her benefits.

I really hope you like it there!

I never sold it but I think you can do quite well especially since your workplace buys often. I would leave a few books lying around in the shop with your name and number on them as well for the customers to browse through while they are waiting. Good luck!

Thanks! I met with the Regional representative this morning. I think once I get the hang of it, it will be fun. I don't think I'll make a ton of money...but a little here and there. There is 40% commission on sales...that varies a little depending on the items and what you sell. I guess you want to try and sell at least $50 each "campaign" and you get the 40% commission. So we'll see how it goes....I should be fully up and running either tonight or early tomorrow....with a possibility of having my own website...but only if there is a demand to have the orders done online...it costs extra money to have the website, if no one orders from it!

Thanks Maui! I'm going to bring the catalogues to work with me and put them on my station and leave them in the waiting area(I work in a hair salon). I'm sure the customers will take them and put them to good use as well as my coworkers. Something is better than nothing. Even if I make enough in a month to pay my cell phone bill I will be happy, it will be more money than I didn't have before! I love avon products too!

I sold it a long long time ago. THEN, you had a carry bag with full size products, samples etc. You had to buy the stuff of course. But the full size products were cheap. I saved certain pieces for myself and for Christmas gifts. That year EVERYONE got Avon. That was back when they had the colognes and after shaves in shaped bottles. Cars, figurines, pets etc. Think the commision was 10% at the time.

I tried it about 33 years ago -- I'm sure it's changed a lot since then! I've always liked Avon products.

I never even thought of that! I will have to look into next tax time...I bet I will...I will also be using my cell phone for my photography business....So I should be able to write it off for both business purposes....I still need to get a business license for my photography though....lol

They do have samples...but I don't have to carry any around with me! All I have is the books...I can order the little mini samples to place in the order bags..they are cheap...$2-$3 for like 10 of them....They do have presale items available to the representatives and for marked down prices....I WILL be taking advantage of that...for advertising purposes and also for gifts and things...they are really stepping up their game with their jewlery and other accessory type items....

Awesome my mom use to be an avon rep in the 70s she bought her own house that way. I sold avon for awhile, but got tired of keeping inventory. I had to go to everyones house so that wasted my gas as well. I would LOVE to be in ohio and work at AVON I heard they have stellar benefits even for infertility.GL!

It sounds like everyone has nothing but good to say about Avon! That makes me a little more at ease! Lets hope I can make this profitable!
