Something that happened today reminded me of this thread. My kids like broccoli just fine, but it's a running joke at my house anyway. When we're in the car and they ask me where we're going, I'll them we're headed to the broccoli store. Sometimes I'll tell them that I'm making broccoli cookies or that we're getting broccoli ice cream.
My kids and i went out shopping and I was giving them my usual pre-outing lecture. I told them that we could get through the day in peace, with no nonsense, no fighting, no whining, begging, etc, we'd go home and have a nice leisurely evening of video games and TV, but if they pulled any crap we'd be coming home and eating broccoli and... I was going to say do housework, but my 7 year old interrupts me and says 'Oooh, video games! But gosh, I can't decide whether I want video games or broccoli.'

I remember not too long ago when my Mom used to make my very healthy school lunch and pack it into my The Waltons Tin Lunchbox. Every day she would loveningly pack a turkey sandwich, or roast beef or maybe even peanut butter and jelly, some cheese, a yogurt, a piece of fruit and a thermos of soup. Boy how times have changed.
ETA Back then it is interesting to note that there were no issues of childhood obesity
As far as the post regarding some Schools now banning baged lunches from home, well that is just plain WRONG. I think I know better than they do what is healthy for my kid and what is not. And after seeing some of the school lunches that have been offered out there I firmly believe that I know much better than they do.

I agree in part with imagine saying that school lunches are the cause of us "gobbling" our lunches. i don't think that is the only contributing factor but I think it's a large part nowadays. One of the biggest complaints I have with the school lunch program since my kids take thier own
is that they generally only have 15 minutes for lunch. You have to eat so fast you don't even get a chance to process if your getting full. Talk about leading to obesity.
