    Default Diaper Rash??

I have never used cloth diapers for as long as I am now. I used a new detergent and I also gave him wheat and he got a huge rash everywere the diaper touches and on his knees. So no wheat now for a week and I switched back to tide HE soap, lots of rinsing with vinegar, and 3 hot washes with no soap to get the other stuff out of the wipes and diapers. was going good, but he had a movment while sleeping through the night and peed a lot that night too. So the rash is back and has been hear for 3 days now. I even started using the prefolds at home with no cover so I would change him more often. But I just cant get it to go away! I know you are not supposed to put creams and such on babies in cloth, so as not to wreck the diapers. And he crawls, so there is no chance of going free in the house.
    Any advice?

~Dissolve some baking soda in your wipes water or baby's bath water. Allow baby to air dry after change. I use diaper creams(got 'em free at my shower)but I line the cloth with a paper towel. You can also use Vaseline or Badger Balm.
A persistent rash could be a yeast infection so call a Dr. if it still doesn't go away.~

When I was raising my babies, my family Dr said...no wheat, corn, eggs till after a year old. I don't know how old your baby is.. I used cloth on all 3, I used A&D ointment all the time, never heard of ointment ruining diapers. Here's my advice, gentle baths with no soap, try letting him go without a diaper for awhile every day to air out, & I used straight cornstarch. And use fragrance free detergent..

I ate some hot soup and my younger son got diahrea from it and got a diaper rash. I ended up calling the Tricare Nurse advice line and followed their recommendations and it cleared up quick.

-For 15 minutes, three times a day, let him be nekid from waist down. You could just hang out in the kitchen for this time so clean up is easier.

-change his diaper once in the middle of the night (I use sposies so you may need to do more).

-when he's wearing a diaper, use some type of barrier- diaper cream, vaseline, etc. I use CJ's BUTTer because it smells so good!

-only use water to clean the bum instead of wipes. You can return to your regular wipes once the rash clears

dd is now 8....but, we had some issues when she was an infant, and we fed her rice based cereals and most of the issues cleared up quickly.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My new disposable liners just came in the mail, so I will start using some goodies on his bum. The diaper area is not raised and swelled up anymore, and is only red around where the sides of the diaper touch now. And it is dry skin. Weird! All my babies had eczima from birth, but not him. Only flares up when he gets yogurt, and wheat. I am wondering if he has developed eczima on his butt??!! I have also been wiping him clean and then putting him on the floor, free, while I get the next diaper ready to go, I think that has helped.
I also wonder if it is a coincidance that the rash started to show up after I ran out of the disposable liners? Maybe they keep his skin away from the cloth detergent that I was not rinsing out well enough. I will make a dr. appnt for next week just in case it does not go away.
