    Default update on my son

The telephone consult was about 30 minutes ago.

The neurologist said that he wants my son to start on meds again to see if that brings everything under control.
This will be for a short time - about 3 months.

If things do not calm down in this time with the meds then he has to contact the dr again and they will take further action.

After the 3 months they will re-evaluate everything and decide whether or not to continue with the meds and/or have an EEG done.

The limbo feeling is gone but to be quite honest my feelings are all over the place.
I feel relief that he will be on meds that he has had before and we know work well and great sorrow that it has happened and that my son has to go through this again.

Personally i would push for the EEG to establish a baseline and see if there is a new underlying cause because of the change.
At least he is starting meds. How can he prescribe w/o seeing him though?

You know, I too would have preferred for him to have an EEG.

This is an epilepsy specialist (he does nothing else except epilepsy) and has been our son's dr for almost 10 years. He is part of the Dutch Epilepsy Foundation Clinic and this was the only med that ever worked on our son. I do trust him to do the right thing and I know from experience that if he doubted anything then he would have done an EEG.

The circumstances surrounding everything this time are different and the dr feels that a short time using the meds should be sufficient. That's why he said to our son that if he doesn't see any difference very soon then he has to call back.

Our son has been burning the candle at both ends for a couple of months now and even though I have been warning him that he was doing too much, he kept saying that everything was OK.
Now we can see that it wasn't.
He has been working 30 hours per week, going to university AND working all hours in the apartment doing the renovation. It was too much for him (and almost anyone else to be quite honest).
But he wants to get the apartment finished.

This weekend I told him that it doesn't matter if he moves in now or in 2 or 3 weeks even though I do understand that your own place is something special especially when you have done so much work to it making it your own.

Nw we have to hope that these meds once again do their work.

Keeping good thoughts for you and your son, Dutchie. It is crazy what stress can do to our bodies, so it is no wonder he couldn't maintain his health with that kind of a schedule! I think I'm a pretty active person, but I don't think I could do what he has been doing for very long.

I'm glad to hear you've got a plan of action via the doctor. I can understand, however, that even though that feels somewhat reassuring, that your heart still aches for him that he has to go through this all over again.

It's true what others have said about stress....it feels fine and you think you can make it OK, then all of a sudden, it's not fine. It takes quite a few decades for us to learn that....young people haven't learned it yet. They push and push. It's hard for us, as parents, to watch them.
