FrugalKate...As an outside observer reading some of your posts, I just have to say that you do come across a little heavy. Maybe it's your years as a N.Y. cop that made you so jaded, I don't know.
My advice is that you might want to soften up some. You have ruffled some really good feathers around here.
My intent is not to be confronting, just some friendly advice. Please take it that way.
Nishu...I am sorry to hijack.

I'm so old and jaded that I can remember back in the day when being judgemental used to be calling something as you see it.I have come to the conclusion after these many years that as long as you do not cost me I do not care what you do with your money. So, if one is unemployed or on welfare and they choose to buy a computer that is their business.I will find it somewhat crazy if a week later their electricity is turned off, or they have no food.I may not be sympathetic. But should the unemployed buy Apple computers? I don't know.

Nice post. Coming from the unemployed side.......one must delete all unneccesary expenses at home, one being the ISP hence we are at the library looking for work so we don't lose our families, homes, things everyone else is taking for granted. In this day and age I would think unless you are unemployed and sitting next to your kids AT the library, you would provide a computer for your kids. I believe if you really want that kind of education for your children you would provide those kinds of tools for them. After all it is 2011 and no longer an option to live without one.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
