    Default Got my food dehydrator

I finally bought one and was going through the booklet, really surprised at what this will dry.The fruits and vegetable list is really extensive,I didn't even know half of the stuff could be dried.
I am really interested in the mushrooms as I use lots but can't get them on sale too often.
Does anyone dry mushrooms and is the taste the same when you plump them back up? Could I rehydrate them and use on pizza, would they be the same?
I can't wait to get started using this.I was thinking of getting some cranberries and making Craisins.

Yes I do mushrooms, they taste great and the same. I sometimes just throw dehydrated on top and they taste great.

With cranberries make sure you boil first until you hear a crack, other wise will take forever to dry and will mold. I do all kinds of veggies , fruits and frozen fruits all the time. I make fruit roll ups etc. We love dried cherries and blueberries I save about 9.00 a pound as I like the no sugar no HCFS and they are a fortune dried.

Glad you got yours have fun and enjoy!

    I got a Salton 5 tray model.It was $39.99 but I am in Canada.
The book tells me that you can dry Mango, you just peel, pit and slice into 1/4 inch slices, and when dry it will be a pliable texture.
Good to hear about the mushrooms and thanks for the tip on the cranberries.Blueberries I didn't even think about those, which I grow in my garden.
I can see I will be having lots of fun with this, and thanks everyone for any tips.

    Glad you got one.

You will come to love it I am sure and such a MONEY SAVER.

I have had MUCH LESS food loss since buying mine........if something is going to go bad before I can get it used......it goes in the dehydrator.
If the refrig. is getting too full due to produce buying............some goes in the dehydrator!

Just experiment..........to see what you like. Try a little bit of something when you are drying something else.

The only thing I won't dry in mine is ONIONS.........and I like them... but the SMELL is horrendous. (and I did it in my 'attached' garage.........still came in the house!)
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Thanks so much Mary for the website! I signed up to receive their newsletter. I bought a dehydrator a few weeks ago. A Ronco from Menard's for $30.00. So far, I've dried pineapple, grapes, banana, peppers, & mushrooms. It ran for days! Again, thanks for the website.

Heres a question about the way you do mushrooms. My booklet says to dip them in lemon juice first ,it keeps them white. Is this really necessary?I just can't see wetting them before drying. Thanks

No C, I don't dip mine they do have a slight tan to them ( think the look and color of all the fancy 30.00 a pound containers in the warehouse or bulk stores) . They look and taste great to me. I just slice my and dehydrate.
