Default Can you Freeze Sour Cream

It's on sale starting tomorrow and I have coupons that will make it very cheap. Problem is I know I won't use more than 1 or 2 before they go bad. Can you freeze Sour cream? If so, what is it like when you defrost it? Can you still use it as a topping for baked potatoes or would you have to only use it in baking?

Yes, you can freeze it. But, it is only good for adding to things or cooking with after it is frozen. I add it to a white sauce with parmesan and Italian seasonings in it. It would also work to make stroganoffs.

Food Network says it can be frozen if you plan to use it in other things, like casseroles. It separates, so not really appropriate for standalone things like on top of baked potatoes.

I found this out when my fridge accidentally froze my last tub We only use it for adding to mashed potatoes or in sauces like beef stroganoff.
