DH---??
So let me start by, I have forever and a day wanted and expressed my feelings that we should have and EF to DH.. He always scoffed at to say the least.. We have always scraped by, even when he had a great job. And still no EF..
Flashforward to today- I got a GREAT deal on a ticket to go see WICKED. I have been wanting to see it, but could imagine paying full price of 80-120 (at least for the seats I wanted). Yesterday on craigslist I saw a ticket for 40.. The guy called today and said it was mine. I was stoked until I realized I didn't have the 40 in my account. I asked DH and he stated that "Well we are already 200 into our "RESERVE", but I think we can pull out 40 for you"!!! HUH??? I never knew we had a "reserve", do we now have an EF of sorts and don't know? YAYAY! The 200 is going back in at the end of the week when he gets his unemployment check-so it is back up to what ever amount he wants it at. And all our bills are current! I am stoked.
Boy how times have changed. Just thought I'd share. Not only about DH, but how I waited and got a ticket for 1/2 price to boot!!Bonnie mom to

Woohoo!! that you get to see the play! If the "reserve" your Dh speaks of isn't part of a min. balance you need to maintain in your account to keep from getting hit with fees and fines, or an over draft protection service from the bank - it's an EF. If it is, it's sort of playing with fire to "dip into" it for every little thing, though I would still consider it an EF for majoremergencies.
Before my Dh was really on board with frugal living - I saved change. If I used coupons shopping, I kept the "savings" set aside. If I hadn't taken the time to clip the coupon, we'd have paid the extra quarter or what have you for an item any way...no harm, no foul IMHO. Don't knock it, it adds up

Thanks to you all. And to Indigomom- luckily we don't have to have a minimum balance in our account, so I guess it is an EF!! Still can't believe we have any kind of buffer in our bank account! Makes me feel a whole lot better. Can't wait for tonight!

Hope you have a wonderful night!! Now you know he might just be uncomfortable with the term "emergency", if he prefers you keep a "reserve" of items in the pantry, and he has a "reserve" of funds in the bank - it's a win/win for you both
