Along the same thread as "cashier mistakes"
Beginning of January DH and I went to Applebees and ordered. The waitress was RUDE!! Didn't want us in her section to begin with, didn't refill our drinks, didn't ask how we were doing---just took our original orders and that was it. So DH says she deserves NO TIP. Then wrote down on our copy why she deserved no tip.
Couple days later while reconciling the receipts DH notices a dollar difference (more) than what our receipt says. Got a hold of the regional manager to let them know something was not right. After he investigated he finds that not only did the waitress hand type in the tip (it is on a seperat key-so there is no mistake_), and for that night the ONLY receipt not accounted for was ours. She stole 1 dollar from us. She could have gone to jail for that and credit card fruad and a whole list of things. We did not press charges-wasn't the point. The point was to make sure she hadn't done it to others. She was audited for 6 months and on probation and the actual resturant was audited for 3.
Then just this weekend went to Roadhouse and had family dinner with about 10 people. Our bill was about 50 WITH tip. Once again DH reconciles the receipts and they charged us 10.93 TOO MUCH! Called the manager and she fixed it right away.
Watch your receipts from EVERYWHERE!!!!! Even the fast food ones. Kfry charged us 60cent too much for something, and the manager was like "its only 60 cents", DH said "ya but 60 cent times a hundred order is and extra 60 dollars". She still didn't get it, but we got our 60 cent slammed on our table before we left.Bonnie mom to

:yes This is why I always keep my receipts. I was a night auditor for a hotel that had a restaurant, and then a food and beverage auditor for a major resort and unfortunately noticed a few people stealing by "tipping themselves what they deserved" (and yes, they got fired!)

This is often a concern of mine tipping with a debit/credit card. I add the amount and sign, but they are the ones that manually put it through the machine. I always check this!
When I worked in the salon we had talks about how easy it would be to add an extra tip and some people would not even notice on their bank account.
Makes you wonder about bars too. How many drunks have no clue if they tipped or not and how much, let alone smart enough to even remember the receipt. However, all of this still has to balance out the drawer because the tip comes from the till.

I have had good restaurant service but the cahsiers not so much.
I would have said NO it's theft the amt. immaterial. Can't you just see going in a restaurant and saying sorry I'm $2 short?

Agreed, watch those receipts! I once had a fast food place charge me $99.60 instead of $9.60. Probably an innocent typo, but fortunately, I caught the error on the spot.

I left a bar one night completely sloshed and I remember leaving a pretty hefty tip as I went. (Actually, it's probably the only thing I remember from that night.) They ran through the original bill only and didn't accept the tip. If you're doing that kind of thing though you probably deserve what's coming to you.
I'm pretty careful about checking my accounts and I can't say this has ever happened to me. I'll be sure to be extra careful about it now. It's kind of sad that she basically sold herself out for a buck.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

When someone says that, just ask them to take the money out of their own pocket and refund it to you. If it's no big deal, then it shouldn't be a problem, and if they aren't willing to do that, then they've proven it really IS a big deal.

We just went to Chili's with my mom and she put 0.00 as the tip but left cash as the tip under the receipt. I hope they don't charge her the tip. I will let her know to be on the lookout for that kind of stuff when she does that.

My dh was at a fast food place and he stood there and figured out that if he ordered the same thing off the dollar menu as is on the value menu he could save 2cents..
