We live in an agricultural area - so there are generally jobs for teens. . . just trying to get them to do the work is the hard part. Not many want to crawl on hands/knees all day in the sun/heat to pick strawberries, or buck hay bales, or detassle corn.
My 21 yo dd works at a local nursing home, she's worked there since she was 16. . . started as a unit assistant (making beds, passing water) now is the activity director. (again, not many young people want to work in a nursing home -but dd loves it)

My sons both just talked to the owners of the berry patch, the seed companies, etc. Friends hired them for bucking hay bales. Sometimes various places had put ads in the local paper.

My 17 year old got her first job at the age of 15 working for the city in their parks and recreation area as an Activities Assistant. She volunteered for the program for 2 years before she got it though. She works full time during the summer and part time during the school year. Just enough money for her.
I guess what I am saying is if they are a younger teen, they may try to volunteer at some of the places they want to get a job at (if at all possible). It was a blessing my DD loved to volunteer and got this job she will have every summer until she doesn't need it. Other wise it is very hard now a days to find a job unless you are 18... I have 2 other teens without a job. They are looking too...Bonnie mom to
DD Roari 18 who has been accepted to BAYLOR!!
DS Craig 16 who is about to get his permit
DS Jared 14 just hanging with friends
DD Valory 9 loving 3rd grade
Lord help me, I have THREE teenagers!!!
Married to Lyndell for 18 years.

It's not bad here. There are HELP WANTED signs at all the fast food places. These places obviously cannot find/keep good help.
For a little over a year, he has been working at a burger joint, until his hours were cut, so he found a job as a food server at a very fast paced restuarant. So for several months he was working 2 jobs.
He told me today he gave the burger place his 2 wk notice as he makes more money at his server job...minimum wage plus tips. For a while my 16 yr old was making a little over $800/mo between his 2 jobs plus maintaining straight A's at school.
So happy he's working only the one job! I miss seeing him

Where I live now is a corporate town, and they always make room for pretty much any summer student wanting work. Where I grew up was a small (400 people) ag town though.
I used to paint houses and fences, do landscaping and yard work, had a paper route, lots of that kind of thing. I remember friends of mine would plant a huge potato garden, work on it over the summer, and do quite nicely at harvest time. There weren't a lot of "job openings", so we tended to make our own work. Maybe something like that is possible? Or are there any fishing lodges or summer camps where she could get both room and board as well as salary? A lot of friends who have worked at fishing lodges have done amazingly well with tips.

When I was 15, I did corn detassling for a summer. The bus driver for our cross country team was a corn detassling supervisor during the summer and recruited students that rode his bus

If you're looking for agricultural summer jobs, I'd check with local feed stores, 4-H club, farm supply store, etcWife to Air Force DH for 7 years.
