Default So what is wrong with

this picture? Some of you know my son was blessed with a surprise baby boy. Well my son was given custody of the baby 2 days ago. He also got her rap sheet. Beside her doing violence on her 2 older kids she also allowed her previous boyfriend to sexally assault her daughter. She has had assault charges on her. Other drug charges. She has spent the last 9 months doing drugs while pregnant with this baby. Did not send the one boy to school this school and they want to give the baby back to her. How many chances does she get. The baby is well loved by his big brothers and his dad. Why would they want to take the chance that she will continue to do the same stuff over and over. I just don't understand.

Yes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

Because we have a justice system that caters to "parental rights" instead of the well being of the children.

Oh no, Fern. I think that might be a situation in which I would take matters into my own hands if the justice system was not...well...JUST.

My prayers go out to you and your family.

You said that the mother did drugs while she was pregnant with your grandson. Did he suffer any ill effects from this? I sure hope not. I'm really glad he is with you guys for now..

Parentalrights? He is one of the parents. Very scary situation here. Please let us know how it goes. Can he talk with Child and family services and get help?

The system is skewed in the direction of maternal custody, instead of taking a balanced look at the whole picture in each individual circumstance. These are the results when justice is not blind. The system continues to have as one of its values that children are better off with mothers than with fathers. I'm sure there are good reasons for that, but it doesn't take a gigantic amount of imagination to see that in many cases, that isn't the reality. I hope the judge who makes the final decision is fair to the child. But it would also be good if the mother could get some help for her own situation.

Have your son fight as hard as he can to keep his baby with him. It may be expensive, but hire a good lawyer....it will be worth it in the end. And never give up! Keep detailed records of the mother's dealing with the baby....good and bad...so if need be, it can be used in court. My prayers are with your son, grandson, and your family in this difficult situation.

The legal system has to realize it is the 21st century. Mothers are not always the best parent for the children to be with. This is just horrible and I am so sorry you and your son have to go through this. Prayers to all of you and please keep us updated. Hugs.

Keep working on it--don't give up yet. Encourage your son to keep records on when he visits the child, what money he spends (food, clothing, etc) and submit it to a court.
