Default Hi from a new frugalist in Australia

    Hi everyone!

I'm a new Aussie frugalist... I haven't been very frugal in the past, but recently I've seen the error of my ways and have been planning the next five years.

Luckily for me I have a job that pays well for part time work and I currently share a house with a few relatives to keep expenses down. I'm in my early thirties and single. Over the next five years, I hope to meet Miss Right, buy some land, build a little home and have a family.

Over the next 5 and a half years, I plan to ditch the "normal" way of living. I can save enough to buy some rural land and build a small home in the next five years if I do this. Instead of renting a place in the suburbs, furnishing it, upgrading cars and socialising at every opportunity as seems to be the norm, I will rent a small piece of semi-rural land for a maximum of $200 a month, put a caravan ("trailer" in American English) on it and grow my own fruit and vegetables.

I'll be healthier thanks to the food and gardening work, no need for a gym, no need for expensive rent, no need to buy everything I eat. By the end of the five years, I'll have enough saved for land, a small pre-fab or self-built home, and investing, and I'll be in the right frame of mind to meet Miss Right.

Currently, I budget and save, I'm starting to garden, and I'm working hard :-)

    That's me!

    Daniel
