    A Little Blue & Frustrated

Going by an average timeline for receiving RAI (Radio Active Iodine)therapy after my surgery, I was suppose to be good to go this week. Here is where the frustration comes in.....the medicine that I need to take 2 days prior to going into the hospital is on backorder....there is a shortage of this medicine. And.....I am also on a waiting list for a hospital room that is set up for RAI patients. add this all up, my much needed cancer treatment will be delayed for another month....the longer the wait, the bigger the risk for whatever cancer is left in my body is to spread further. I am so irritated right now. I live in a city that has nearly a dozen plus hospitals and they are having trouble booking me a room?? And a drug shortage?? I thought that I lived in America, not Europe (no offense to my European friends)

What about coming up to San Antonio for treatment? Is that an option?

Totally frustrating - to have multiple things go wrong. Michelle does have a good point - what about another city? Keep us in the loop please. Prayers, hugs and aloha continue your way.

Yes you have to be the squeaky wheel. Good luck. If it was me and I didn't get it done quickly I would have a meltdown and send certified letters to the Insurance company, etc.

Oh MAN!!! That is just ridiculous. It isn't like you are getting a boob job. This is a vital treatment! Be creative and look into every single option. I've found that the word "no" from the red tape societies is rarely ever final.

Praying for a solution for you.....

    That's awful!

In my country the insurance companies can lobby for you with hospitals. Maybe you can ask them to intervene and speed up the process? I'm sure they'll also not be cheering when they'll be faced with more problems due to this delay.

    I wish you the best!

Here is the link to CTRC here in San Antonio. Many of my patients recommend the doctors and services there:

It helps that there are options out there that people can support their work. Where does it stand now MHA? Silly thought of mine - but please remember to breathe completely and not just shallow breathing - it all helps. Take care my friend!!

I have a fabulous update Got a call today and I am to see the RAI specialist on Thurs.(2days from now).....the ball is finally rolling! I might have to put up with the other method of pre RAI preparation....meaning that I might have to be taken off of my thyroid medication for awhile, instead of just staying on them & taking the Thyrogen shots back to back for 2 days prior to RAI due to the shortage. I hope that they get the thyrogen soon b/c I really am dreading being lethargic being off the medication.I can't even have soy in my diet b/c it interferes with the synthroid.Sucks b/c I love chinese food waaay toooo much Thank you all for all of the advice and prayers. I am so excited that things are moving forward now & I am that much closer to being on the other side of this

Just got back from the RAI specialist...everything is set for June 22. Heavy prayers are needed...the Thyrogen is suppose to be delivered on the 15th...if it is on backorder again, that means either more waiting, or the dr. will have to take me off of synthroid for 6wks and perform the treatment the old way (not pleasant). Please pray that the Thyrogen is delivered( there is a nation-wide shortage). Thank you & hugs
