My granddaughter (pregnant) and her fiance' literally tied themselves to a pole in their utility room. The house came down around them. The house was a total lose, their cars are gone, and their place of business (they both worked at the same place) is gone. They survived by the Grace of God.
Their neighbors 2 doors up didn't make it out alive.
Count your blessings--name them one by one."

Joplin was the big city I use to go shop in when we lived near by.
My youngest was born there. Many people I know worked in and went to the hospital that was destroyed.
My heart goes out to Joplin
My heart also goes out to all the other places that recently had tornadoes. There are some others in the midwest that only make the news as footnotes as they are small so there numbers are less sensational. Their tragedy is no small footnote to them.
Here is a slide show of damage many may believe it was all Joplin damages as the slide show was connected to article about Joplin but if you read the footnotes that come with the pictures you realize that is not the case.

My heart and prayers go out to all the tornado damaged places big and small.
As a person who lives in a family that has had a family farm destroyed by a tornado it does get better things get rebuilt life gets rebuilt. It will be okay even though it doesn't seem like it now.

I'm 3 hours from Joplin and my ex and son live about 30 minutes from Joplin. He said the sky was green last night. Been talking to him on and off all day finding out new stories.
Horrific and they are under a tornado watch right now.
I'm nervous about tomorrow because they are calling for tornado outbreaks for Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
Last year was a pretty mild and this years storms have been horrible! I even heard that they are predicting a lot of hurricanes this year.

I have seen tornado damage up close and personal and photos cannot convey the full depth of that kind of disaster. The horror and destruction are unimaginable.
I was traveling through Oklahoma Sunday and got a good look at the backside of that storm system. Even from 100 miles away it was a monster.
My heart goes out to the good people of Joplin, who have lost so much, and have so much more yet to endure.

I'm from St. Louis and my heart just breaks for the poor people in Joplin. We are expecting another unstable weather day tomorrow also and I just pray that it doesn't do any more of the devestating damage that Joplin has seen.

No, I've never been in that one. I 'thought' is was part of the Tulsa chapter and they are way overpriced on everything. USED jeans for 7.99 and that was 5yrs ago. I loved the one in Wichita, they sold used items at used prices.
I just looked in the phonebook and the Joplin Goodwill was at 21st and Range Line, doesn't look like they made it

Oh that is so sad! I wonder if it got the mall there than too. Still strange how the tornado really hurt on hospital but left the other hospital right across the street. At least that is how I understand it happened. I friend on mine use to fly in the St John hospital helicopter that was trashed.
They did sell used things at used prices at the Joplin Goodwill when I was there."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS
