Request for prayers please
For the orchestra trip. For safety and safe return of all the children and their instruments.
I did ask my friends at church for prayers but with all the devastation around us I think my more frivolous prayer might be forgotten. So I ask for ones here. Please
Their suitcases and instruments head out today. The students board a plane on Thursday May 26 before most of us are up. They return by plane on Tuesday and return to us early on Wednesday June 1. Their suitcases and instruments will return very late Thursday or early Friday June 3.
Buddy is my child who is going, it will be many first for him, first time on a plane, first time sleeping away from home without a family member, first time seeing the ocean. etc.
So I'm sending one of the of my most precious, my first born with the most expensive thing we own (beside the car and house) out far away. Son irreplaceable , cello replaceable but it would be hard to do but I know if it gets lost or broken or stolen that it will have to be replaced.Last edited by imagine; 05-24-2011 at 09:43 AM. Prayers going up. I am sure he will have the time of his life and you will worry every second. That's what Moms do. Hugs.

I am very worried that they will lose him.
He is quiet and they did seem to forget that he was going on the trip and he isn't the best at realizing what is happening around him if he finds something interesting. I sure there will be lots of interesting stuff. He also doesn't have a good friend going to keep track of him. He is rooming with two other boys that he only knows from class.
Other moms have told me that chaperones get in very big trouble if the lose a child so that will lessen the chance of it happening.
More than half the children have never been on a plane before. The teacher says that should be interesting and we might be getting calls to coxes our children on the plane.
Cell phones make the trip less frightening. The teacher made sure all the children put her cell phone # in their phones and ask us to put her number in ours. She said to call for things like your child isn't answering their cell phone. (so if someone gets left behind or lost that should help)
So that is different from when I was a child."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

I know exactly how you feel. I go on all the field trips when my children are young because of this fear!
I know in this case it is not possible for you to go. It may help alleviate your fear if you talk directly to your son's chaperone and tell her/him of your fears, ie: him being quiet, wandering away, etc. I'm sure the teacher can also keep extra watch on your son if you talk to her. Glad you can talk to Buddy via cell phone too, that should really help. It will all be ok.

Buddy and Little Miss have been on field trips without me before just not out of state and definitely not a plane ride away.
I don't believe that they have a specific chaperone and won't have to have an adult with them all the time ( although an adult should know where they are). They are high school children. Buddy is the youngest. They will generally be in a large group except when they have exploring time. The teacher has told them not to break up into groups smaller than 3 and take 3 with you whenever you go that includes the bathroom. Buddy got confused and said to us "What if you have to go number two, do they have to go into the stall with you?" we reassure him no that just in the bathroom was okay and that they need to wait until all three that were together were done. We also reassured him that it she didn't mean you needed three in the bathroom in your hotel room. LOL
He is a very rigid rule follower.Last edited by imagine; 05-24-2011 at 12:16 PM.

Yes a wonderful trip. So much is packed into it.
Days are packed from sun up ( 5 or 6) way past sunset (10 to 12 seems to be the norm) one night they don't get back to the hotel until after midnight. There first day they land and hit the ground running. If they didn't sleep on the plane they will have been up 24 hours when they finally hit the hay.
Great places preforming. Great things to see. It will be so fun.
A trip to remember always., that is for sure I hope he makes lots of wonderful memories.

Sending up prayers for you and your son's group.
You are going to worry the entire time he's gone, I worried myself sick the first time mine took off for a week. He came home so excited about all the things he got to see and do. I'm sure yours will be he same way, but I know exactly how you are feeling. I hope he has a wonderful time.Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

I would put a call into the teacher and see if there is a nice older boy that she can quietly talk to and see if he would take him under his wing a little and help keep an eye on him.
