storms-a-comin

Southeast Missouri - We are at extreme alert for bad weather this afternoon. The Weather Channel is in a near by town waiting. Schools are letting out early and I need a hole in the ground.
I hope all we get is a sprinkle and get to have a few laughs at the weather people's expense.
EVERYONE PLEASE STAY SAFE!!!Housework can't kill you, but why take a chance?

We just had multiple tornado touchdowns in KC over the lunch hour today. I spent an hour and a half in the basement with the cats waiting for things to pass. One of the storm cells went right over the house. Damage seems to be light, with no fatalities.
Good luck Maw-P! I'll be thinking of all you fellow Missourians. There's a whole line of tornadic storms crossing the state today.Use it up, Wear it out,

Please be safe, everyone. Louisiana has (fingers crossed) missed the violent tornados this spring - so far. However, they'll have to hurry to catch us before we float away on Old Man River.
And soon, it will be time for the hurricanes and the forest fires. Mother Nature is in a really bad mood these last few years.Donna

I know so many hurt not physically but property etc. with these storms.
Ones here where I live now and ones in my former home.
One friend here lost her roof of her house. lost their hay barn and the hay, some of the cattle, and her Hubby lost the grain thingy (business) in town that they owned. The town is almost all gone but it was small so it was only a foot note and probably will not receive federal fema aid to rebuild. Her family members were less lucky and they bunked and are bunking at her house.
In my past a few years ago a tornado took out Hubby's Grandpa's farm, the farm Hubby grew up on. Lucky they were not home at the time They say/fear Grandpa might have fought the tornado for the farm.
I saw a tornado when I was in college. We were at pizza hut. Pizza hut lost power and they locked us in. The tornado flanked the town a mile out. We stood in the window and watched it as it went the length of town a mile a way.Last edited by imagine; 05-25-2011 at 02:40 PM.

Yea, sirens going off for an hour and a half. I grabbed two water bottles, a blanket, my cell and land line, my son, and our shoes and went downstairs which is partly a basement. Stood by the stairs watching tv and had the radio on because Dish went out.
I'm just now catching my breath. Parts of Kansas and the KC area of Missouri is still under a watch until 6pm.
Looks like Sedalia got hit pretty bad. Going to be another long day.
Stay safe everyone.

I was freaking out the most when they said there was cloud rotation over 24hwy and over the school which is where I live. They had the school in lock down and my step-daughter was texting me in a panic.
We are pretty used to this stuff, but the storms have been huge this year all over. The Joplin one really freaked me out. I use to shop their a lot when I lived further south. Yesterday was pretty scary here too and I was a paranoid freak all day.
The Kansas City Chiefs stadium set up a place for donating water bottles, batteries, and flashlights for Joplin. I planned on swinging by there today, but I think I'm keeping my butt home today!

I live in New Madrid County and no storms yet. Northwest of us is getting pounded everywhere. I hope everyone is safe. We have no basement so I hope we miss them. Storm cellar is definately next on my to do list. This year has been awful.
