Default Cheap airline tickets? Is there any such thing anymore?

I need three tickets to San Antonio from our local airport and was wondering what places you have gotten your best deals from? I like and have used Expedia for years, but I'm wanting to go lower if possible. I want as good a deal as I can get. I hear about people getting tickets for less than $150 and I just don't believe it. I'm a bargain trip hunter and I'm just not finding any such thing! What do you think? Where do you buy your tickets? Must fly in July preferably on the 16th to return to New Bern on the 27th or so. Any ideas? Help? TIA!

DH just got RT from Maui to Salt Lake City flying United from Orbitz for $450 - amazingly low price - keep looking.

For travel in the US I've used hotwire.com to get a hotel room for cheap. Only prob is you can't pick the hotel chain, only enter criteria for the type of room you'd like - smoking or non, how many beds, amenities and how many stars you'd like. Hotels list their rooms on hotwire to sell the scraggler rooms at a deep discount. My sis and I managed to get a Hilton room for $49 with a breakky incl.

I've been seeing ad's for kyak but I've never used them, I think they're for flights? What about looking up the airlines directly and googling discount codes?

This (hilarious) video summarises my experience with 'cheap' flights:

Not sure if it's quite the same in the US, but 'extra charges' are often the case here with certain airlines . Good luck with your search, Val.

I use kayak.com it just lists the best prices then you go to the airline's website to purchase. the only downside for me is that they don't include Southwest Airline so I have to check them out separately

Part of your problem is that you're trying to fly into New Bern. I never had anyone who flew in to visit me in Havelock fly right into New Bern. I always had them fly into Raleigh, then I'd come pick them up. I'd check on doing something like that. Flying into smaller airports always costs more.

Check Travelocity.com too. I found a round trip flight from Jacksonville to SA and back for $348 per person. Even from Raleigh to SA and back is $318 per person.
