Wal-Mart crafts
I'm not sure if it was here or not where people were talking about some Wal-Marts no longer having a fabric dept. But we were told in a meeting today that by the end of the year all the stores that had fabric and guns taken out of the stores will be getting them back. O.K. maybe not the best choice for getting guns back but I thought some people would like to know about the fabric depts.

We still have a fabric dept. in our WM - this will be good news for those who lost theirs!!

The ladies in our town will be thrilled. They have to drive 20 miles to the nearest Wal-Mart for fabric and such.

I would rather see the gun dept. I can get fabrics at rummage sales for a fraction of what I would pay at Wally, but I like being able to stock up on shells. Those are going to get harder to aquire IMO.

Thanks...will have to check mine out. Don't get there that often but will watch and see.
Dislike the re-arrangement of the store now so go there even less often than I did before.
ANY competition with fabric is a good thing for this area.

We now have a super Walmart in our area.
The other day, when I was in there checking out the yarn area, I noticed, that certain color yarns had red tags on the bin. Lady said they were closeouts
She also told me they were going to be redoing that area. Two skeins of yarn had gotten out early and I could see they were going to 10 ounce size for that color I buy. I also noticed some of the "pounders" are now 14 ounces
Yesterday I was in there again, and talking to a lady who told me the fabric area was going to be changed. Not sure of that area because it would be very rare I buy anything in that section. Guess is probably bigger.
My thought is if I need something in their yarn, I better be paying attention to what I have here, and what I may be needing.
I know the one color I actively search, is no longer being made. I talked to the factory rep myself to confirm that. Sigh

When they took out our fabric cut off the bolt they added the precut fabric on the wall in kits and it really stinks. If this is what you girls are talking about then don't get excited.
I used to buy fabric at Walmart and also I still buy it at Hobby Lobby and Hancocks as they do have great quality but you are going to pay the price for that quality. Also, let's not forget my local quilt store because I love me some Moda!
Once I bought the higher end better fabric($10 a yard) it is impossible to go back for me as a quilter. I am ruined I tell ya, ruined! LOL.
Oh well my quilts will be pretty and last longer if they don't break my bank first! The math never lies, budget in INK!

Cricketlegs beat me to the punch. I rarely shop at Walmart but had to get some supplies for Brownie camp a couple of weeks ago. I checked out the craft section and the fabric consisted of really, REALLY poor quality fat quarter and other cut bundles. I did pick up two Simplicity Sew Easy patterns but having sewn with fine quality fabric recently, I just couldn't bring myself to get any of the bundles. I'd rather buy and work with less of the good stuff, than more of the cheap stuff. Of course if that's all you can afford and all that's available I understand.

Same thing has happened in our Super Walmart. They brought back fabric alright...in crappy quality fat quarters. I like to feel the hand of the fabric before buying. I won't be rushing to Walmart anytime soon unless I see bolts of quality cotton/baby prints back in the stores.
