Default My husband lost his job

My husband lost his job last week. I'm going into survival mode, trying to cut as many costs as I can. We are hoping to relocate from our 2300 square foot house to an 800 sq foot apartment, which will save about $1000 a month between rent and utilities. I put in an app for the apartment, say a prayer that we get it please. We could also use a prayer that we can get out of our current lease, they said the only way is if they market it early and someone else wants it. Otherwise we are stuck till Sept. We dropped our iphones and switched to Straight Talk, also dropped cable and home phone. I'm selling everything I can on Craigslist. He will be making $50 too much in unemployment to receive food stamps, I really hope Medi-cal goes through, we have a 4 week old and 15 month old, and can definitely not afford $900 a month for insurance anymore. I also have an appt at WIC, I never thought that would be us but I guess you got to roll with the punches huh?

    ugh, Sorry to hear.
Have him check www.Indeed.com for jobs a couple of times a day. His new job is searching for a job and I don't mean an hour per day.

When my wife was laid off, she spent 4-8 hours per day looking for a job on the web and newspapers.

Have him check Craigslists for jobs that may only last a day or even jobs that people just need at their home. (cash, won't affect unemployment,)

Good luck to you and your family.

My prayers are with you. My husband was able to get medical if he did a spenddown, even we were not eligible for food stamps, ask at Human services if they know of any food pantries in your area that can help with food.

Think positive for sure, maybe you are worrying needlessly, maybe he will get a job on Monday.

I'll mention indeed to him. One of the first things we talked about was doing random little things from Craigslist. He is also putting in bids for programming jobs on Elance, he's done that before and made decent money. I can't really get a job to help out yet, our dd is too young for daycare and refuses a bottle anyways so she's pretty much glued to me. I do surveys, secret shops, and ChaCha, hopefully I can step that up and make a few hundred a month.

Thank you. I know there's a food program that meets in the parking lot of a sports complex every Wednesday at 7am, I plan to use that if need be. They give you a bag of produce and one of shelf stable food each week.

Just an FYI... Indeed checks a lot of the other job sites so its like an all in one site.

You and your family will make it through this. Get the word out that you want to leave your current residence for a smaller apartment. Letting people know that there is a great three bedroom home available to rent. You never know who might be looking.

Yeah, we've been wanting to move pretty much since we rented the place. It's a 4 bed 3 bath with a pool, it's also an older house. The utilities are outrageous! The highest month here it was $306 for electric and $180 for gas. Water and trash are $100. I have gotten it down to about $300 for all 3 now, but that is still more than we can pay now.
