    Default Need some help

We live in a townhouse and our next door neighbors have teenage boys who drink, smoke weed, and drink alcohol a lot. We reported them to the management for smoking the weed on the roof in front of our children. 2 nights ago they threw beer cans in my patio and I've reported them to management, but nothing has been done and every night I have to pull my children in the house, because they are out there smoking and stinking up my patio. I called the non emergency police line, but all they said was to report them when something was in the course of happening and to contact management again. We are at our wits end, does anyone have any other suggestions? We are considering breaking our lease and just moving.

The only thing I have to say is if you break the lease I would refuse to pay the costs of breaking it since the other tenants are doing something illegal and nothing is being done about it.

12 years ago I had problems with my neighbors' kids, twice they broke into my apartment and they were caught but management would not do a thing, the kids' parents tried to intimidate me, that did not work. They unfortunately were allowed to continue living near me.

I stood up for myself, my DD was 12-13 and my DS was 7-8.
    I eventually moved.

The Sheriffs Dept was no help, also

I think you are in a no win situation. Good Luck with legal aid, I hope they tell you some way you can move.

These people are setting a very bad example for your kids.

Can you sneakily take pictures (or video of them would be even better) of them doing the illegal activities and then send them anonymously to the management and cc them to the police?

If they are outside smoking an illegal substance every night, why not wait until tonight and call the police when it is happening, as they suggested?

Amen to the last two. Also, keep a journal/chart of every time you see or hear awful behavior. Document, document, document. It will make it much easier when it comes to talking to police and management. If you tell management that you have proof etc., they are more likely to move forward, either letting you out or kicking them out.

Show them when things start, what you notice while awake, how many beer cans the next morning, EVERYTHING. Take pictures of the beer cans and surreptitiously of the smoking if possible.

Pictures and videos are always great. Sure taking the videos to management and the police will help. But the news is even a better place to take the video. Probably would get management and the police moving faster. Oh yea, child protective services would also be contacted.

If they are teen agers then call Division of Family Services hotline. Where are the parents when all this dope smoking is going on?

You are in a now win situation first of all if video tape magically appears of them breaking the law. They are liable to be violent with you with your children present or damage your property. I have stood up to drug users and dealer (lived in public housing) they always do something worse. MOVE

I do have pics of the beer cans. I will not try and sneak taking video of them, because of the way our patios are they could see me and they have done other little nuisances. I'm going to write a letter to management and see if they will just let me out of my lease early.

Bliss mommy I am sorry I lived in public housing for 14 years and had the worst neighbors ever. people who did not bath themselves or their children.the smell would come into my house and make me sick. People who sold drugs in front of my apt in the backyard. steal my porch furniture. Ride computers chairs into cars. Management never done a thing. I argued with janitors and won. called social services parents done just enough. I have a sore spot over this. By the way my manager liked me always picked my house for hud inspections ( not Random at all) I got inspected every hud for 14 years 1x to3x a year. always picked up dog poop never had any problems with neighbors except for the hooker on weekends got her evicted, the drug addict over me called cops on her everyday for drug use she was always high. A bi-polar woman who stalked me I MOVED> good luck hugs Pen

We once broke a lease for extreme partying neighbors years ago . I documented every call to management. Every time the police showed up. I documented trying to sublet. We finally just moved out. They sent us a a harassing letter demanding the other 9 months rent. We paid an attorney to write a letter. he documented the facts in the letter etc. We never heard another word from the rental company ever again!
