I have three checking accounts, one of which I don't keep any money in and don't use. I have two savings accounts.

-Joint checking account: where paychecks go and American bills go out. We use this for daily expenses

    -Savings account- emergency savings

    -Savings account-short-term savings

    -Savings account- house downpayment fund

-checking account- at a credit union in DH's home state to help keep residency. When he goes TDY or is deployed, we lob money into it so DH knows he can freely spend it since we don't always get to communicate much

-checking account- German account. This pays all our German bills
