First off, prepare for culture shock.. I was born and raised in So. Cali and when I moved to the Midwest (Iowa) The way of thinking and living was way different.. Now I am in the Southern Midwest and the thinking and way of living is again different..

Don't rush in to adjusting, mistakes I have seen others from Cali try to do, and it doesn't work.. Take it easy, get to know your area, and just go about your usual way.. You'll miss things bout Cali of course, but if you keep an open mind, take in the beauty of the area, the slower pace, etc., you'll learn to love it..

Weather is something you will need to get use to, and I can't say that in 16 yrs, I still have gotten use to it, but I deal with it.. Yes you are going from earthquakes to tornados, but for me the difference wasn't a big deal.. Just make sure, if you don't have a basement or storm cellar, you know where your local Storm Shelter is..

I am proud to be from So.Cali, but would never move back there..

Best of Luck to you and your family...

Bless you!! I grew up in Southern California and moved to Illinois 23 years ago. I don't mind the peacefulness and the nice weather changes. But hate the fact that 90% less to do here then Cali. Ca is one of those states that are to break free from when you have lived there your whole life. Now moving from Ca. To Florida or a fast pace city isn't so bad. Wish you the best of luck.

Another one from SoCal! I can honestly say I don't miss it ONE BIT! I love Colorado and feel like I'm home sweet home! The snow has taken some getting used to, (especially driving in it, lol!) but then I lived in New York and Nebraska for a couple years growing up, so I knew what I was getting into. I really love the changing weather, keeps it interesting. You'll be fine, just allow yourself an adjustment period. Enjoy the change and keep us posted on how you're doing!

Born and raised here, used to go to California on vacations.

Oklahoma is not all flat and dry, we ARE going through a drought right now but this is an unusual year. Right now it's just stinkin' hot. Where I live it's considered Green Country, we have lakes, rivers and ponds that Texan's call lakes! We are the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Western Oklahoma is drier than it's been since 1980 but even down in the Lawton area there are lakes and hills! One thing about Oklahoma, we are equal distance to the mountains, or the beach at the gulf or to either side of the country.

We do have all four seasons and interesting cultural background. The cost of living is low and I like living here!

I would also like to point out that, yes "smoking" around here usually means smoking meat, but that said we are still the marijuana capitol of the nation. LOL It's a bit of a misnomer that the line from Okie from Muskogee says we don't smoke marijuana, truth is we do and we grow alot of it.

I have family there so I have only visited Mouskogee don't know if it is spelled write. Flat, flat, flat. Very hot and humid in the summer. Very cold this past winter. Hope u like it. I am from a small town in Ky. My relatives say the housing market there is reasonable and the cost of living there is cheaper. So u will have to judge for yourself. Oh tex mex and chinese food are different. good luck.

Just to let everyone know I love Oklahoma. It is the kind of place I have dreamed about living in( small town) since I was a little girl. It is a little hotter than I am used to, been about 103 to 110 degrees but I wont melt.

First, I am very glad you are happy in your new location! Second, thank you so much for making it a point to come back in to your thread with an update. So many don't take the time to do that and it is always so nice to not be left wondering.

Have fun exploring your new world! Any luck in the job search?

BELIEVE me, this is not normal. We're breaking records that were set in the 1800's. Glad you're happy here!
