Well, I think I killed the coffee snob in me :)

I admit it. I am a coffee snob.... well, I was, anyway.
Coffee is something I don't feel the list bit guilty spending money on. It's my "thing".
Well, when the price of coffee started to really spike a few months ago, I decided that I would at least TRY some cheaper coffee....... I am seriously "LOL-ing" about this cup of coffee I am drinking as I type this~
Here is my saga of "sacrifice"
~~
For years, my coffee at home consisted of nonfat lattes made on my Starbucks machine with SBucks esspresso. Then I decided to switch to black coffee made with SBucks coffee. Ok, that didn't hurt too bad. Then I noticed that I could get Seattle Best Coffee for around 5 bucks a pound on sale, with a coupon. I tried it.... it was good. THEN, I thought "can Folgers and and Maxwell House coffee really be that bad"? I mean, I can get a whole canister for around a couple bucks when I match sales to coupons....... I hate to admit it, but it was not too terrible. So, today, I am drinking a cup of coffee made from a mixture of Folgers and Seattle's Best Coffee. (I like it best with a mixture. Straight Folgers is a little tough for me to take LOL)
But that's not even the worst part. I hosted a baby shower last nite and we drank through the first pot of coffee really fast (it must be OK, cause they all drank it too! LOL)... so I made a second pot.. which remained till this morning.......
so, here I sit, drinking a cup of Folgers/Seattle's Best black coffee..... WARMED IN THE MICROWAVE
She's dead. I killed her.

ROFL When you decide to treat yourself and have a solo Starbucks you might even gag at it wondering why you remembered it was so awesome. I hope you don't and consider it a treat when you do get to splurge.

DF is a coffee snob. He prefers the higher costing brand b/c it 'tastes better when its cold'. He drinks too much coffee, almost as if its like water. He'll drink leftover coffee, even cold - to which I understand his statement but still...its coffee, nuke it and keep on going
I did manage to switch him from the super pricey brand down a few bucks to an organic local coffee but at the rate he goes through coffee - I'd love to have a story like yours Traci!

I've recently switched over to Folgers Gourmet flavored coffees. I just have 1 cup in the morning. Its really good!! So far have tried hazelnut and their chocolate truffle. I only use 1 tsp in my french press then each day add 1 tsp more until about the 3rd or 4th day then wash it all out and start over. Its been working well and I've had the same bags of coffee for over a month or more.

HAAAhahahahaha! I loved your post! I am such a coffee snob too. DH is worse. Much worse.
I used to order coffee from Chicago and we made it in the coffee maker. THEN, I got a Keurig (mini) for Christmas from IL's. We tried a few brands till we found the one we both liked best, and then found the cheapest place to order it in bulk online.
Ordering it (with the shipping cost, etc) is a royal pain and a source of guilt for me (not dh, lol), so I recently picked up Folger's Columbian K-cups at the store for a 'little less' (but much more accessible) and have been buying that to slow down the amoount of ordering we do. I'm back to Folgers! (albeit k-cups) Wow. For a coffee-snob like me, that is major. I feel ya.

Am more than happy with any kind of instant coffee. Good to hear you found a FV way to enjoy coffee!
I like to boil cinnamon sticks in water for about twenty minutes. This gives you a great cinnamon tasting water to make coffee with. Much better than using ground cinnamon.

That was so funny. Coffee snob here, too, but I really am and happy to stay that way. I only have one cup on weekday mornings, and I'm the only one in the house that drinks it, sooo. . . it is, and will remain, one of my allowable little pleasures. Enjoy your Folgers.

I love good coffee, too, so I definitely understand your post. I "solved" my coffee budget issue by not buying coffee any more at all; I only drink coffee at work (so, no coffee on the weekends, and yes, I miss it).
At work, it's Seattle's Best made with grounds and a filter (drip), or the Flavia machine's little packets. The SB isn't great, but at least it tastes like real coffee. I can't stand the taste of the Flavia stuff (plus, I hate the expense [yes, to the company] and the environmental waste of the individual packets).
I miss Peet's Sumatra or Ethiopian coffee (we used to buy their beans and grind and brew them at home). It just tastes better to me. Some day we will have it again.
I drink coffee black, by the way, so the taste of the coffee itself really matters to me.

I'm a coffee snob as well. I really just started drinking coffee about a year or so ago. I order mine on line and it ships automatically every 3 months. I make a 12 oz cup in the morning and that is it. Sometimes on a weekend I'll make a 1/2 a pot, but usually only in the winter.

I'm totally a coffee snob, but I prefer Green Mountain coffees. If I'm buying "cheap stuff" I prefer the 8 O'Clock coffee to Folgers or Maxwell house.
But I am guilty of reheating in the microwave!Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

My late MIL used to dump instant in the cup and put warm tap water (well water, they lived on a farm). Then a saccharine 'pill'. Blech!
I drink whatever comes in the blue can
I used to run the breakfast shift at our county fair food service, EVERYONE (at least, everyone who wasn't drinking Mt. Dew) raved about the coffee in the morning. It was from Aldi!!

Oh, I am hoping I planned right so I don't have to go through some of that.
I have tried GOBS of them.........and eliminated many. When coffee started to spike, I wasn't out but bought a large canister of Maxwell House as a 'backup'...........can't do Folgers without sugar.
I prefer White Cloud and the Costco in Boise carries it (made there) but I can't get our Costco to carry it. Albertsons carried it for a short time, then it got to 12 bucks a bag (2 pounds) before coffee spiked. I stocked up last time I was in Boise and still have a couple bags left.
I guess if times get rough I 'can tolerate' Winco brand.......not bad and much smoother than Folgers.
I usually mix mine.........a regular with a vanilla.......but can't find a vanilla that I will pay the price.....so....a small sacrifice could be coming for me.
