Default This may be wrong to do but...

This may be wrong to do but to save money this is what I do. I live in the country and I used to have garbage pickup. It used to be at a certain amount and I would pay that amount every 3 months and every so often the price kept on going up and up so I quit this company. I then brought my garbage, when it got filled up with my 3 garbage cans, to a disposable center about 18 miles round-trip. I did this I quess every month and I saved money. Pickup was on Mondays when I was with the garbage pickup company. Now what I do to save money on gas is that I put my garbage bag in one of the garbage cans for pickup on Mondays in my neighborhood on Sunday nights and now I don't even have to spend my gas to bring my garbage to the disposable. Very frugal but very wrong. What do yall think?

Kinda sounds like stealing cable to me. You are getting something out of something that someone else is paying for. Either pay for the service yourself or drive it to the dump. But there is a line between frugal and cheap.

Totally wrong if that is the case.

I wonder how you would feel if one of your neighbors hooked his hose to your spigot to water their garden.

Cajun57: First, welcome to Frugal Village. I see this is your first post and I'd hate to see you scared off by the replies here.

Most of us have certain ways that we go about saving money. We are pretty consistent, though, in that we are careful not to be dishonest or unethical in our efforts. I find that it usually ends up backfiring.

Stick around, though. It sounds like you really are trying to save money. You will find some wonderful ideas here.

oh, no no no no no. That's no good. But I can tell you what we did. Trash service costs were out of our budget. So we talked to the dump and found out how much it would be to take say a truck load of garbage to the dump. They said it was 20.00 a truck. So we split that cost with some neighbors who were spring cleaning their house and garage. So our cost was ten dollars, and that kinda lightened the costs for a little while until we had it in the budget to restore our service. We hauled the trash ourselves to the dump, we were under the limit each time we went and we were able to do that to bridge the gap during suspended service.

I don't think he's going to be adding to anyone's trash bill by throwing his garbage in other people's trash. If they weren't using the extra space in there anyway then he's not actually doing any harm to anyone except maybe the other trash people who aren't profiting off of his extra trash disposal.

Anyway it's still dishonest and a really horrible idea. You don't want to be known as the weirdo tightwad that uses other people's trash cans and you don't want to get in trouble. Doing something like that can ruin your relationships wiht your neighbors and your reputation. It's really just not worth it.

Plus there are better ways to get around your problem. Reduce, reuse and recycle and all that. If your neighbors can keep their trash output low enough to not use a whole trash can, you can too.

    Very gracious reminder, DaisyGirl.

I think what OP is doing is wrong unless The neighbor gives permission. I also hope you'll stick around the village. You will be able to glean many useful tips and tricks on saving money.

And they probably will give permission if you just ask.

While I can kinda see the point if you're not causing someone else to incur more expenses by dumping your refuse into someone else's trash IF you have their permission...but...still seems a bit unethical to me though...
