    Default Finally!

As some of you know, I have stage 3 Papillary Carcinoma - thyroid cancer. I should have had my RAI cancer treatment the last of May, but due to the FDA & the pharmaceutical company that manufactures a drug called Thyrogen, my life has been hijacked until now. With Thyrogen, I would not have to be taken off of my daily thyroid medication...I would have 2 shots one day after the other, then go into the hospital for treatment. Welll....b/c of the constant delivery delays...it has caused my treament to also be delayed. So my doctor got fed up w/ the delays & put me on a different type of daily thyroid medication that I've been on for a few weeks....now here comes the really rotten part....starting today, I have to stop taking any medication until the 20th (scheduled for the RAI) so that the radioactive iodine will be better absorbed & kill the remaining cancer cells. The side effects are what I am dreading....joint pain, horrible fatigue, water retention...no energy to get through w/ normal daily activities. I am relieved that all of this will be over with soon and it will all be like a bad dream. I could really use your prayers and any helpful advice. Thanks

    I'll be praying.

Just a thought about the fatigue and joint pain.

    - You may not feel up to cooking while you're going through this. Maybe preparing a months worth (or more) of meals ahead of time would be helpful.

    - Maybe make sure you are well stocked in toilet paper, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, etc. so it's not necessary to run to the store.

Praying for you. Cabbage and tea are natural diuretics - so you may want to eat or drink things that will help you shed the water. You could try MSM or glucosamine for the joints. They are good for arthritis pain not sure if it would help the other kind of pain.

I can't start thing about you - I never stopped!!!!

Like Polly said, prepare as much in advance as possible - not just meals, but any projects you've been puttingoff.

Maybe purcahase some books to keep you entertained while you aren't feeling well.

Take good care of my friend! I know the angels will be watching over you!

I agree with the others. Try and get meals prepared in advance and get the family on board so they know there will be days when you will not be able to do anything! Rest, rest when you need too. You need to keep your strength up. Ask your doctor about medicated cream....you will have bad burns from the radiation. DH's covered his whole neck and was extremely painful. Have lots of freezes, Popsicles and sport milkshakes on hand. Your mouth will be extremely tender and it might be difficult to eat. The frozen treats will keep up your strength and feel good.

You are in my thought and prayers. Stay strong, we are here for you. Sending my love.
