Thread: Baby it's hot outside

I too love the sunshine after being cooped up all winter with the doors shut. And for that reason I only put my air on when it gets really hot or I feel like summer just passed me by. I love summer for other reasons too. I love gardening, swimming, being outside and not having to wear a jacket to go outside. I love sitting on my patio at night and this year has been bad with mosquitos to I light a citronella candle.

I know it's hot in the midwest, thank God we have a sea breeze here and showers every afternoon.

Just stepped outside for a bit of fresh air - yeah, right. It's past 9:30 pm, thermometer is way past 80, and the five minutes I was outside has me covered, drenching with sweat - yuck. The only ac I have is in the bedroom (DH likes it frigid, I enjoy snuggling under blankies, so it works.) We are living in a cave, otherwise, blinds drawn, lights off, only do dishes in the early am, not cooking if I can help it.
Vermont has two seasons: Wintah and the Fourth of July.

It was really, really, really nice here today. About 85F outside with a few clouds, but otherwise, nice and sunny and HOT! I love it! We went up to the lake and spent about four hours out of the house today. There was a nice breeze at the lake and the water was nice and cool.
Tomorrow, it'll be that way again, but I doubt my oldest will want to be outside in it. He got a bad case of sunburn today and it made him sick (poor guy), even though I put sunscreen on him. He burns like I do. My youngest didn't have it too badly, but I'm still putting some on him tomorrow. I'm gonna blow up the new pool for the boys and fill it, stick it in the front yard and hope the mosquitos don't bite too much. It was awesome at the lake because we didn't have them near the water.
Keep sending that heat this way. I love it!Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

Yeah, I trained at Parris Island from the end of March until the end of June. I remember waking up at 5am and it was already sticky and humid outside. Then, we'd be out in that heat from about 6am until 9pm for thirteen weeks in a row (unless there was a thunderstorm, but I do remember running in the pouring down rain in full gear, and that was just torture on me at the time). Then I got to be in coastal NC but my ex-husband was from Savannah and I remember how hot it used to get from about the end of March until October. Ooooh boy. I do miss it a lot, though. It's better than rain, rain, rain.

We were without AC of any kind in the house from 1986 till about four or five years ago. It was hot when we lived in Minneapolis in the eighties, then we moved north in 1990 and didn't need it. But the weather is changing and it's getting hotter here in the summer, so we put in an air-source heat pump a few years ago. It's currently not working so we're using a window AC in my office and hiding out here.
The weather isn't as bad here as it is farther south, of course, but we're not used to having such crappy weather, so it's hard. Especially for older people who don't have AC because we need it so seldom here.
Give me thirty below any day compared to heat and humidity.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hope everyone in the 'heat belt' is able to survive and stay
somewhat cool. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS!!!
We STILL haven't hit 90 yet.......but have been warmer than the
westside...........thank goodness.
AND..............we have a dry heat. Little muggy (for us) here today but a storm in coming in tomorrow night......
PLEASE TAKE CARE..........it is dangerous out there!!

I grew up without AC but then so did everyone else...We have it now but part of the problem is that when you get used to having AC it is hard not to have it...can't miss what you never had..it looks like this week is going to be a nasty one again it is frying my tomatoes before they get totally ripe and the neighbor who is a farmer has planted corn in his fields that are next to the house and I do mean next like within 15 yards so it is blocking any breeze that could come my way....oh well at least I do live in the country and don't have to deal with all the concrete that just loves making it hotter...so wait until winter when I complain about how cold it is...hehehe...

Yup the heat wave is going strong here. Been living in a cave. Right now am keeping the balcony door curtains half way open. Need some natural light in here otherwise would go bonkers. Luckily it does not get full sun until the afternoon.
Am on the second floor and realized the other day there is just enough room that I could sleep at the doorway if I needed to should the electric go out. It is much cooler there. Will look into getting a battery powered fan for a backup.
Have even noticed the cat spread out where the fan produces a breeze. Thank god for AC!!!
Really greatful for all the info I have learned to keep the place cooler here on FV. Otherwise I would have all the windows open and the AC going on full blast and worrying about the electric bill.
