Is it foolish to post photos of your home online?
Now that we are getting ready to move into our awesome new apartment, I've mentioned on Facebook the whole thing: "we're apartment hunting!" "we found an apartment!" "we signed a lease" "we're painting on Monday" etc. So naturally quite a few people have posted "can't wait to see photos!"
Do you think it's dangerous to post photos of the inside of your home on Facebook? My real name, real city, and a few other details are on there. I might want to put up my address at some point - I don't know. I am worried about attracting thieves, basically. I am even nervous about posting photos of it before we put anything in it. Am I being paranoid??
My current thought is to make an FB album with photos of the place but keep it private and only make it available to friends who ask to see it or maybe just my closest circle of friends. Since I live abroad and use it as my primary means of keeping in touch with friends around the world, I have more friends than average (over 500).
I have posted hundred and hundreds of photos on Facebook but they have ALL and I do mean ALL been photos of trips we've gone on. Since I live abroad and travel frequently, and I love photography, I have lots of great photos to share, and I enjoy doing so - and of course landscape photography is a safe area.
I almost never post photos of people - only have a few pictures of myself and don't post photos of other people because I think it's a little bit presumptive. Also the ONLY things on my "wall" are birthday wishes that other people posted to me. I delete absolutely every single solitary other thing from my wall within 3 days of it showing up.My Brand-New Blog: http://homeingreece.wordpress.com

Facebook? I'm most comfortable posting there. I'm not friends with everybody in the world there (no unknown gamers for ex.) and many of the people have already been to my house or would be if they lived here. My setting are pretty locked. I like the comments or suggestions. If you are uncomfortable, make sure your GPS feature is turned off of your phone if you are taking pics or use a regular digital camera. You can adjust the settings to your comfort level.

I'm only basing this opinion on the fact that you have 500+ friends on your FB page.
why not just email the pics to those closest to you? One email to all, and then you can comfortably include pics of the outside, of you guys moving stuff in, more personal that way -Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

I don't see a security issue with posting photos of inside your home as long as there is no show of your location.
But why on Earth would you ever "I might want to put up my address at some point" ????? That is just an invitation to trouble when you post your location on a public social network system.
But seeing the pics inside would be fabulous to share.

When you live in a different country from your family and friends, they often ask about addresses for postcards and things. My address has changed 16 times since 2006 so no one ever has my address. It was just a thought. But why on Earth would you ever "I might want to put up my address at some point" ????? Never post that much information on a social site..
Either e-mail it to the people that need it, or buy/make change of address cards and send them.. I have made change of address post cards and sent them out in the past. You can also private message your address to people on fb.Mom of 4

I almost did that 3 or 4 moves ago. I even ordered the cards (from a free card service). Unfortunately when I figured out the cost of mailing them to the US and other countries, I couldn't afford it. I don't have most people's email addresses because my old email address stopped working about 6 months ago. I only have about 10 email addresses. No one I know really uses email anymore except my parents.
Anyway, like I said, it was just an idea. I've had my address on there before (when I was living in a university dormitory). My Brand-New Blog: http://homeingreece.wordpress.com

I would not post my address or picture of house on facebook. I keep on hearing to much about facebook not notifying members prior to releasing new features. Why put yourself in the position of anyone seeing information about yourself.
So to that end, you can made a nice album on picassa and have an address listed. Then send an e-mail to all your closests friends with a link to the web site.
Any other "friends" that want to see your new home you can either state you are not posting pictures or you can take a picture of the outside of the house where the house number is not showing or maybe a close up of the front door. Something that does not give to much information of what the house looks like or where it is located. If the "friends" are still persistent just state you do not have time to take more photos of the house. If they are still persistent then unfriend them.

What about taking pictures before you move in? That way, the bad guys won't see your "stuff" and everyone will still get to see the apartment.

identity theft?
burglary?11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I agree on the not posting address thing. Especially on FB where you might post something like 'going camping for the weekend'...you get the idea.

I would use a group email on Facebook to send pictures and your address to any close friends and family, that way you pick who it goes to and don't have to hunt down email addresses.
