Another newbie........
Hi everyone
I'm new to this site. I live in Ireland and have been searching for a site that gives tips and advice on how to spend less money doing everyday things.
Our situation is that there is DH & I and our DS who is 5 and DD who is 2.
I was made redundant following the my Maternity Leave after having DD and there are no available jobs in my field close enough to home to collect the kids from daycare. DH commutes 1.5 hours each way to work and is frequently required to work overtime for no extra pay and often travels abroad too with work.
Between my loss of income and DH's paycuts we have lost 60% of our take home household income.
We have a house (with a mortgage), 2 cars, no loans and live approx 4 hours from my parents and as my Dad is not well we need to make trips twice a month to them.
DH's family live in Greece a 4 hour plane ride from here and we all go once a year in summer and DH goes alone in winter (it used to be that we all went 3/4 times a year). The summer trip is something we budget for and I would sacrifice a lot to be able to do this as it's the only time his family get to see the kids. We only pay for flights as we stay in a summer house owned by the family and borrow a car while we are there.
So it's time to get serious about the budgeting.
I also want to create a small stock pile of basics -not a years supply or anything as we do not have the space to store it but enough that if we get snowed in again this winter that we don't panic. In Ireland the last 2 winters have been bad and we are not used to that. Most people do not have snow tires or chains here. Last winter we were one of the few homes in our area to have water all the time and the stores completely sold out of bottled water.
Any help and tips appreciated.

Hi everyone
Sorry it's been such a long time. I haven't had much time to be on here since first joined as we went to Greece to see DH's family and then shortly after we got back my Dad got worse and is now fully confined to a wheelchair.
Unfortunately this means that our savings has taken a battering as I spent some time at home with my folks and the driving up and down costs a fair bit.
But things have stabilised for now so I want to start again with the budgeting and replenishing the savings.
