we still get calendars free at the bank, mom and pop pharmacy, insurance office.

The services of a travel agent were free, until the airlines got greedy.

The other way around, back then 'free refills' of cold drinks were unheard of, only coffee.

I hadn't even thought of free refills of soda...good point! We can still get free air at most gas stations here...

I don't know if 'free samples' count? Like when you're walking through Costco? (I know, you pay for the membership).

At least visiting the library is still free!!

As a kid, I still remember the once a month trips to Wheeling, WV that when you had had to go to the bathroom, you had to put money in a slot to get into the stall or you climbed under it. Just like in the 1st Smokey and the Bandit movie.

Air at my workplace cost .75, the bathroom is free. If you need water for your radiator we don't charge them.

We can get free air around here, too. In fact, we've traveled quite a bit around the midwest and not had a problem finding free air on any of our trips.

Free refills of pop is no bargain, if one considers the calories involved. Same for all you can eat of anything.
